Job Description
Responsible for the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of all aspects of the firm-wide database infrastructure including but not limited to design, standardization, security, replication and backup/recovery strategy. Addition Software Application Support duties. Acts as Technical Reference User for other designated applications to ensure that the Firm is fully leveraging tools within its applications portfolio.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
• Provides design, planning, configuration, documentation, deployment and support ownership of the firm’s SQL Server infrastructure.
• Works closely with the application teams working on products such as viDesktop. Elite, LexisNexis InterAction, and PeopleSoft to ensure that the database elements of these applications are applied consistently throughout the firm.
• Acts as Technical Reference User for other assigned applications, frequently working with Business Reference User(s) to understand how applications are used at the firm.
• Performs application deployments, upgrades and patch planning.
• Specific experience with viDesktop Talent Management Suite and InterAction by LexisNexis desired.
• Assists in maintaining a testing environment for development.
• Participates in cross-functional team projects to implement new or updated technology.
• Assists with resolution of escalated incidents and participates in problem management activities.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Contributes to the Firm's ServiceMatters initiative to consistently improve its image internally and externally. Displays professionalism, quality service and a "can do" attitude to internal members/departments of the Firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person.
Qualifications
Required Skills
• Solid understanding of database principles and practices in a complex client/server, distributed computing environment.
• Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining SQL Server 2005/2008/2008R2/2012.
• Strong SQL skills and familiarity with system stored procedures, triggers, tables and views.
• Experience installing and maintaining SQL Server 2008R2/2012 in multiple environments, including VM and SQL Server Clusters. SQL Server AlwaysOn, Azure and Amazon Web Services a plus.
• Experience supporting and administering SSRS (SQL Reporting Services) 2008R2/2012, SSIS (SQL Integration Services) and Analysis Services environments.
• Exposure to other development languages/environments including ASP, Javascript, VBScript XML, as well as .NET technologies such as ASP.NET, VB.NET and Visual Studio.NET
• Experience supporting a 24x7 production environment
• Ability to work effectively with both users and technical staff in team-oriented environments.
• Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
• Ability to work successfully and independently in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft OS-based desktop and server systems. Working knowledge of Microsoft networking concepts and common infrastructure.
• Troubleshooting experience with PC desktop applications in an enterprise environment.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes a SQL Server Data Encryption a plus
Education
• College Degree in related field preferred however relevant experience can be substituted.
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): SQL Server 2012 – OR - MCITP: Database Administrator SQL Server 2008 Certification desired.
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Business Intelligence a plus.
Required Experience
• 3-4 years’ experience as DBA at an organization of similar size and complexity with similar responsibilities
• 5-6 years’ experience with SQL Server 2005, SQL 2008, SQL 2008R2 and SQL 2012. Should include experience upgrading from SQL Server 2005/2008/2008R2 to SQL Server 2012.
