BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (NEW YORK OFFICE)

Overview

The Business Development Manager is responsible helping the firm’s partners drive revenue through the support and facilitation of targeted business development activities, including strategy development and target identification.  This position will be assigned select practices to support in addition to regional responsibilities.  In many respects, this business development position will act as a gateway to all of the services the Marketing Department offers.  The Business Development Manager is an exempt position and reports to the Head of Business Development.  The hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday and expected to be on call and available as needs dictate.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Pitch, RFP and Presentation Support:  Provide thorough and proactive presentation and pitch support and coaching to the attorneys, which may include script and role drafting and definition, presentation outlining, pitch material creation, vetting and crafting of pre-presentation questions, strategy assessment, project management, etc.

 

  • Business Development Opportunity Spotting:  Thorough monitoring of industry, client and legal developments and trends, identify and communicate potential opportunities to marketing department and firm leadership, as well as attorneys. 
  • Intelligence Gathering:  At the end of each pitch, craft post-presentation questions to evaluate how well our partners did and how we compared to the competition whether we won or lost.

 

  • Research and Analysis:  Work with Marketing’s Research Specialist to deliver proactive client, prospect, region, office, competitor and industry research and lists to meet the business development needs of the firm’s partners and as outlined in various business development and strategic plans. 

 

  • Internal and External Communications:  Working closely with Communications Team, help the firm’s partners, practice group leaders and office managing partners raise the profiles of each office, practice group, individual partners and the firm. 
  • Client Alerts, Newsletter, CLE and Other Value-Added Services:  Work with the firm’s partners to issue branded client alerts, newsletters and CLE trainings. 
  • Speaking Engagements and Article and Treatise Placements: Working with the Communications Team, help identify valuable opportunities for speaking engagements and strategic placement of article and treatise placement. 

 

  • Directories and Surveys:  Respond to directories and surveys such asChambers and Legal 500, in addition to regional awards and rankings, among others. 
  • Marketing Collateral and Lawyer Biographies:  Work with assigned attorneys to ensure that biographies, practice descriptions and office descriptions, among others, are up-to-date and ready for print and web publication.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Other Requisites

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a discipline requiring writing, research and analysis, marketing or business
  • Eight or more years of marketing experience is required
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Law firm or professional services experience is a plus.
