Job Description

CCIH Mental Health Interns provide on-site and home-based therapeutic services to individuals (children and adults) who are participating in CCIH’s permanent supportive housing and experiencing emotional challenges. Many of the children CCIH serves are receiving Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) services. One MH Intern will provide psychosocial/life skills assessments and life skills training for adult individual clients. Interns will also provide outreach to and collaboration with outside service providers (including medical, mental health, and educational providers) involved in client care.

These are part time (20 hours per week), non-exempt positions and offer some flexibility in terms of a weekly schedule. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

Mental Health Interns will have a Master’s degree in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy, and will be registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an intern working toward licensure as an LCSW or LMFT. Candidates will have experience in the human service field, preferably in dual diagnosis, substance abuse, mental health, and/or homeless setting. Experience in educational settings, and with special needs students, preferred for one intern position. Willingness to work flexible hours, excellent communication and time management skills are required. Bi-lingual in English/Spanish a plus.

Additional Information

CCIH is hiring up to three (3) Mental Health Interns to provide part-time services to individual adults and families across three of its service programs. These are paid positions that include clinical supervision by experienced licensed professionals.

MH Intern Responsibilities:

  1. Provide milieu-based and/or in-home therapeutic services to individual children and/or adults, including assisting with mental health crisis management.
  2. When applicable, assist in delivering parenting support groups and/or individual parenting support.
  3. Collaborate with case managers, and when applicable other youth enrichment staff, to provide support for families and/or individual adults, using a team approach.
  4. When applicable, assist families to access children’s services – both mainstream and private - in order to support age appropriate development and child well-being. Tasks may include assessing academic and non-academic youth needs, researching and connecting families to services, advocating within school-based programs, supporting/coaching families, and transporting families to necessary appointments.
  5. Identify youth and/or adults who are at highest risk and perform regularly scheduled home visits to assess how the family and/or individuals are coping with and/or improving their circumstances.
  6. In concert with other team members, ensure that youth have access to basic necessities such as healthy food, health and dental care, clothing, shoes, school supplies, and safe transportation to school and other activities.
  7. Assist adult and/or youth residents to develop individual life plans and goals – and provide support to assist them in successfully achieving these goals.
  8. Provide conflict mediation to residents living with roommates or family members and/or engaging in conflict with neighbors.
  9. Complete timely and accurate documentation within 24 hours after each service contact.
  10. Meet individual contract service goals for hourly billing, including averaging a minimum of 7-15 hours per week (depending on work schedule) of direct service to clients.
  11. Assure that timely and accurate data is available to be entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  12. Participate in weekly individual and/or group supervision, using that time to work on developing therapeutic relationships and clinical issues, as well as exploring growth opportunities as a mental health provider. Participate in clinical training as possible/needed.
  13. Participate in weekly/monthly team meetings, monthly CCIH staff meetings and (as applicable) monthly CCIH YEC/YA meetings.
  14. Maintain awareness of culturally diverse consumer populations and perform duties in a culturally competent manner.
  15. Assist with data entry and reporting on service outcomes as required.
  16. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs and up to ½ mile at any one time.
  • Ability to sit for up to 2 hours without a break.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements, such as typing and filing, and use of commonly used office machines and supplies.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to speak on the telephone for up to 3 hours
  • Ability to drive an automobile and transport oneself between meetings, including driving at night.
  • Must pass LiveScan screening and TB test.

Salary is contingent upon skill and experience.
