Job Description

The Maintenance assistant is responsible for assisting the Director of Environmental Services with preventative maintenance, routine and emergency repairs to permit the continued use, operation, and safety of the buildings, facilities, and grounds, as well as snow removal and lawn care as well as other duties assigned by management. 

*Preventative Maintenance- Oil and grease pumps, motors, exhaust units, and other equipment

- Monitor filters, belts and fluid levels on all equipment, changing when needed.    

 - Other preventative maintenance as required.


*Repair and maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems.


*Repair and maintain plumbing.


*Repair appliances in apartments.


*Maintain and repair windows and screens.


*Clean and maintain trash chute and dumpsters.


*Keep Director of Environmental Services and Health Center Administrator advised of building maintenance concerns.


*Responsible for lawn care and snow removal.


*Respond to work orders and maintain work order log.


*Maintain current inventory of residential and mechanical equipment.


*Share on-call responsibilities with the Maintenance staff, responding to emergencies per the on-call policy.


*Perform additional duties and activities not specifically designated that may be required or necessary.


*Maintain a commitment on the part of the organization and staff consistent with the philosophy, goals and Christian objectives of the organization.


High school graduate or equivalent. Must have at least a special boiler’s license or be able to obtain one.  Must be able to make repairs in plumbing, heating, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical. Must have experience working with the elderly and disabled. Must be familiar with nursing home codes and state regulations. Ability to safely use equipment, understand and follow directions, work independently as well as with others in a professional manner, prioritize work, identify emergencies, respect privacy, confidentiality, and tenant’s rights.


 Physical Qualifications: Hearing and speech must be sufficient to communicate clearly with tenants, staff, volunteers, and visitors, and to observe the proper operation of equipment. Vision must be sufficient to read product directions and equipment operation instructions, control dials and gauges. Strength and mobility must be sufficient to allow for the ability to climb stairs and work from ladders. Must be able to life up to 50 pounds.
