Job Description

This position will be responsible for performing a wide range of ultrasound exams. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Perform sonographic examinations ranging from the routine to highly specialized procedures. Set up and adjust all equipment and manually maneuver the tranducer to perform examinations. Assists radiologist during invasive procedures. Responsible for obtaining pertinent diagnostic examinations.


Essential job functions are: Greet and introduce yourself to patients. Confirm the patient's identification following policy. Describe the nature and time requirement of requested examination to the patient. Interview the patient in a professional yet comfortable manner. Demonstrate good overall listening and speaking skills. Act in the best interest of the patient by addressing physical and emotional needs and being mindful of the patient's comfort and safety. Address patient and medical staff complaints. Recognize emergency situations, initiate code procedures, administer first aid and CPR as needed. Assume charge position as requires in the absence of supervisory personnel. Assist Radiologist, Physicians and other staff in the performance of sonographic exams. Consult with the Radiologist and or other Physicians regarding examinations as necessary. Proficiently us diagnostic equipment. Notify supervisor immediately of any equipment failure. Correctly demonstrate anatomy, label images correctly and produce quality ultrasound images for diagnostic interpretation. Complete examinations in a timely manner with minimal supervision, in accordance with established departmental time frames. Record patient's history, unusual conditions and limitations and other vital information on preliminary reports. Demonstrate techniques and guide students in learning the art of ultrasound.

Use universal precautions and universal protocol per policy. Schedule patients in radiology coordinating with other modalities to ensure efficient patient flow. Maintain a safe, neat and clean area that is stocked with supplies. Utilize communications systems; pagers, pic pagers, telephone and intercoms. Attend meetings, educational in-service and other training sessions according to departmental policies. Appear well groomed and maintain neat, clean and pressed uniform. Work as a team player, be cooperative and flexible. Be positive, behave in a responsible manner, and demonstrate good professional and ethical behavior at all times. Knowledge and technical competence with ultrasound equipment and procedures. A high degree of technical aptitude, an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and understanding of medical terminology associated with various procedures. Ability to interact with radiologists in discussing and interpreting results of scans. Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to customer service. Ability to improvise standard procedures. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, making decisions and directing work and patient flow to achieve maximum operational efficiency. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
