Overview:

The Leadership Giving Specialist, Québec works closely with senior staff and volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts ($10,000+) from individuals, foundations and businesses to support the David Suzuki Foundation’s specific projects and general organizational goals, including developing and implementing strategies for donor acquisition, retention and recognition.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships to set and achieve annual fundraising goals and revenue targets, and to evaluate progress
  • Plan, direct and implement a major gift program for donors ($10,000+) primarily in Québec, to raise funds for program priorities
  • Support senior volunteers to maximize their effectiveness as DSF fundraisers and ambassadors within their high net worth networks
  • Initiate and manage special events in the region, including fundraising, donor cultivation and recognition events on a variety of scales and in a variety of locations
  • Work closely with the Director General of Québec and Atlantic Canada to plan, strategize, prepare briefings for meetings/events, create proposals/concept notes, research donors and attend meetings and pitches
  • Write cases for support, presentations, letters of inquiry and detailed grant applications to funders (institutional foundations, family foundations, individual philanthropists and corporate partners), including budgets
  • Collaborate with other departments in identifying project needs and preparing proposals and reports
  • Proactively steward current major donors via regular updates and written reports, invitations to events and facilitating contact with other DSF staff
  • Arrange and strategically prepare for meetings between prospects/donors and senior DSF leaders
  • Capitalize on DSF-led and external event opportunities for networking, stewardship and cultivation
  • Update and maintain accurate donor and prospect information in databases (Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce)

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree and experience in major gifts fundraising and a global knowledge of fundraising methods and skills
  • Familiarity with the Québec philanthropic community and knowledge of environmental issues
  • Demonstrated high levels of initiative and a successful fundraising track record, including recognized ability to raise funds and achieve objectives
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills
  • Outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills; ability to connect and build trusted relationships with donors and volunteers
  • Strong writing skills — ideally with experience writing successful donation proposals and grant applications
  • Experience conceiving, planning and executing fundraising and cultivation events
  • Excellent judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters
  • Effective, independent self-starter
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience working with and preparing senior leaders/volunteers for meetings and solicitations
  • Knowledge of or experience in environmental issues an asset
  • Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email and social media; familiarity with donor database management systems required; experience using Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce an asset
  • Knowledge of CRA charity guidelines and adherence to the AFP Code of Ethical Standards
  • Positive, collaborative team player
  • Fluent in spoken and written French and English
