Job Description
Summary: The General Labourer / Construction assistant will be required to perform tasks involving physical labor at a manufacturing plant, and will be required to operate a variety of hand and power tools. Responsibilities will include the assembly of products using bolts, screws, clips, soldering tools, and assorted fasteners. The General Laborer will be responsible for the efficient production of products according to established procedures, following all safety protocols and workplace policies.
The General Labourer / Construction Assistant performs some or all of the following duties:
- Bolt, screw, clip, or otherwise fasten parts and components together using hand and power tools and equipment.
- Mark, record and report defects.
- Lubricate, clean, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, and tools.
- Assist shipper and receiver with loading, unloading, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
- Clean and perform preparation of yard, shop, and work-site.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR preferred.
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Effective verbal and listening communications skills.
- Ability to have a critical eye for identifying defects.
- Commitment to quality and safety.
- Ability to respect diversity and treat others with respect.
- Ability to avoid unnecessary conflict.
- Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required in various assembly processes.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor.
