Job Description

Position Overview:

The role of Instructional Designer is to support the internal training efforts of Digital Risk through strong curriculum design. The new team member will collaborate with members of the internal training department, SME’s and key stakeholders to design, implement, and deliver specific skills development and training to a diverse employee population across multiple departments and sites. They will also be responsible for identifying and assessing key curriculum objectives as they relate to critical job competencies, required workplace performance measurements with the goal of accomplishing desired results from a web-based training platform.

The ideal candidate will be creative and dynamic in their knowledge of web-based content design, as well as possess a high value for quality. They will have a demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design, curriculum mapping, and technology-enabled learning platforms. They will also possess an understanding of distance-learning measurement, such as monitoring and reporting the effectiveness of trainings.

  • Ensure the functionality and effectiveness of equipment, adequacy of supplies, and professional appearance of training facilities
  • Formulate and communicate new ideas and suggestions that will improve profitability and efficiency for the company’s overall operation
  • Promote professionalism at all times
  • Must be able to arrive at work on time, work on site or off site if required and have regular work attendance
  • Provide feedback to managers regarding the effectiveness and success of the various training programs
  • Travel to alternate work locations assessing needs and training as necessary
  • Set expectations and tone, while motivating new and existing employees in and out of the classroom environment
  • Maintain proficiency in creating and delivering training materials and information in a variety of media, including computer based, web based and classroom
  • Must be able to interact with department managers on a daily basis
  • Must be well-organized and possess a high degree of attention to detail
  • Must be a self-starter who is comfortable working in an ambiguous environment
  • Must be a collaborative team player, willing to learn new skills quickly and develop innovative approaches

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of Instructional Design experience OR Demonstrated proficiency in Mortgage Processing/Underwriting/Closing with strong software (MS Office PowerPoint, etc.) skillset and aptitude
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite including strong Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Word template knowledge

Design

  • Ability to design creative and fun learning modules that are highly effective and professional
  • Develop mortgage curriculum and job aids for required use by all employees to train and reinforce mortgage specific origination and compliance knowledge
  • Design, develop and program manage the launch of new and enhanced curriculum, ensuring it meets key learning objectives and outcomes
  • Conduct learning analysis to identify learner tasks and sub tasks; develop instructional strategy and curriculum to include measureable learning objectives that support those tasks
  • Design and develop effective learning programs for employees dispersed across multiple departments and locations
  • Develop high-level and detailed content outlines/storyboards to result in web or classroom-based learning modules, including creating course content at a level appropriate to defined objectives and target audience within quality controlled standards while enhancing content through effective storytelling
  • Develop instructor and participant materials as needed
  • A work product example will be required

Project Management

  • Determines project goals/milestones based on identified business needs/timelines, and obtain appropriate approvals (e.g., go/no-go decisions, checkpoints, project management and scope creep)
  • Manage Instructional Design Projects independently with timelines and deliverables
  • Manage multiple iterative projects and meets continuous deadlines

Teamwork

  • Able to effectively establish and manage relationships with Facilitators, Stakeholders, SMEs, Management, and other interested parties
  • Demonstrate communication skills and editing for the purpose of knowledge transfer and skill development, including explaining technical topics and concepts to novices
  • Works independently to seek out SMEs who have limited availability
  • Fosters SME relationships through preparation and clear, concise communication
  • Collaborate with cross-functional department leaders to assess needs, define course objectives and create curriculum
  • Provide regular status updates to Training Manager on project status and updates
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure organizational needs are met, build strategic relationships with staff and SME’s to enhance product quality and internal customer satisfaction
  • Participate in Classroom Facilitation as needed
  • Support training room preparation and facilitation as needed
  • Reviews work performed by others and provides recommendations for improvement

Preferred

  • Mortgage/Finance/Banking background is a plus, but not necessary
  • Proven expertise using instructional methods and training techniques, including curriculum design principles, and blended learning strategies
  • Expertise in and application of Adult Learning Theory, ADDIE model
  • Experienced in Learning Management Systems management and administration including course publication, tracking, assigning, skill stacking
  • Practical knowledge of SCORM and AICC conformance
  • Experience with LMSs
  • Experienced in the development and programming of interactive, computer-based multimedia training materials using programs such as Adobe Professional Suite eLearning Suite, Articulate, Illustrator and/or Fireworks, Captivate, Flash, Camtasia, Lectora
