EF International Language Centers

Synopsis

EF International Language Centers is looking for an experienced leader to direct the academic team at our Santa Barbara center located right in the heart of beautiful Santa Barbara. This position includes managing 20+ part-time and full time teachers, as well as directing all functional and logistical aspects of the academic program.  EF is the market leader in a growing industry at the crossroads of education and travel.  The hallmarks of success in this role are passion, ability to think quickly on your feet and attention to detail.

 

The Role

Our Santa Barbara center has experienced significant growth over the last year and has an average of 600 students in the academic year, 800 in the summer. The school offers a wide range of programs to meet the English education needs of our diverse student body, including general English integrated skills, elective classes and Cambridge test preparation. As the Academic Director, you will be responsible for implementing a consistent quality of academic programs, while managing a team of teachers.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating and scheduling classes to meet needs of the school and your teaching team
  • Leading teacher training and development; including classroom observations and feedback
  • Working with our online database systems and computer-assisted language learning, as well as doing some curriculum development
  • Liaise internally, with the academic operations team and the academic departments in North America, as well as EF offices worldwide
  • Conduct academic orientation for all incoming students
  • Maintain strong class size averages to ensure cost effective classes
  • Advise students regarding classes, programs, schedules and academic goals

 

Requirements

  • MA in TESOL or related field preferred/ BA with equivalent experience considered
  • Direct management/supervisory experience (1 year min.) and excellent leadership skills
  • Minimum 3 years ESL/EFL teaching experience
  • Proven record of flexible and creative decision-making
  • Overseas teaching experience strongly recommended
