Synopsis

Are you interested in pursuing a career in human resources and benefits management? The role of HR and Benefits Specialist at EF Education First will provide exposure to all aspects of the HR world in a fast paced, challenging and rewarding environment in one the most exciting places to work in the greater Boston area. You will enjoy working in a diverse, multicultural environment with staff from all over the world as a member of the recruitment and employee development team, specifically supporting the benefits/HR team. This role is at our US headquarters in Cambridge, MA.


Summary:
In the role of Human Resources and Benefits Specialist, you will have the following essential responsibilities:

  • Act as liaison with EF employees at our 17 locations, address general HR-related questions and respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs.
  • Conduct new employee orientation/onboarding of new staff to review benefits, the workplace and foster positive attitude towards company goals and mission.
  • Be the primary contact with our 12 language schools across the country to assist directors with remote onboarding and employee relations issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance.
  • Track and report on employee stats including hires, promotions, transfers and terminations.
  • Assist the Director of Talent Acquisition in job postings and Application Tracking System (ATS) management
  • Administer benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, 401(k), vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and workers’ compensation.
  • Investigate workers’ compensation claims and prepare reports for insurance carrier.
  • Work with HR Coordinator to:
    • Track and input new hire paperwork into our HRIS system on a regular basis, along with filing of new hire and active employee paperwork
    • Maintain both I-9 files and transitional employees files
    • Assist in various staff audits for insurance and 401(k) purposes

  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and consciousness in managing confidential information
  • Capacity to work in a timely and accurate way to meet mandatory deadlines
  • Experience and working knowledge of FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, PPACA, ADAAA

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related discipline from four-year college or university required
  • Minimum three years of relevant HR generalist/work experience in human resources
  • Knowledge of HR operations and administration required
  • Knowledge of HR-related state and federal regulations required (multi-state preferred)
  • Knowledge of California HR-related state regulations strongly preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • PHR or PHR-CA designation a plus

Computer Skills:

Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook; familiarity with HRIS/HCM systems (ADP a plus).
