Synopsis

EF International Language Centers is looking for an experienced leader to direct the academic team our newest school in Washington DC. Located 20 minutes outside the city on the DC Metro, our new location in Takoma Park will open mid-April and expected to grow quickly! This position includes hiring and managing a part-time and full time teaching team, as well as directing all functional and logistical aspects of the academic program.  EF is the market leader in a growing industry at the crossroads of education and travel.  The hallmarks of success in this role are passion, ability to think quickly on your feet and attention to detail.

The Role

Although a new location, we are certain this school will become one of our flagship locations and student population is expected to be over 100 by the fall term. The school will offer a wide range of programs, including general English integrated skills, elective classes, business English and Cambridge and TOEFL test preparation. As the Academic Director, you will be responsible for implementing a consistent quality of academic programs, while managing a team of teachers. Since this is a new school, there will be a significant amount of hiring necessary to build your team and the ability to implement programs which can grow in scale with the school will be instrumental in success.

Responsibilities include:

• Creating and scheduling classes to meet needs of the school and your teaching team
• Leading teacher training and development; including classroom observations and feedback
• Working with our online database systems and computer-assisted language learning, as well as doing some curriculum development
• Liaise internally, with the academic operations team and the academic departments in North America, as well as EF offices worldwide
• Conduct academic orientation for all incoming students
• Maintain strong class size averages to ensure cost effective classes
• Advise students regarding classes, programs, schedules and academic goals

Requirements

• MA in TESOL or related field preferred/ BA with equivalent experience considered
• Direct management/supervisory experience (1 year min.) and excellent leadership skills
• Minimum 3 years ESL/EFL teaching experience
• Proven record of flexible and creative decision-making
• Overseas teaching experience strongly preferred
