Job Description

We are seeking a Human Resources Director to support our Living Options service line which provides individualized services for those living in their own homes, offering up to 24-hour, seven-day assistance and our Corporate Headquarters.  

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officers, the Human Resources Director will provide high-level human resources functions with an emphasis on employee relations; implements, administers and effectively manages corporate human resource policies and procedures, in compliance with state and federal laws. Selected individual will also provide exceptional HR service delivery along with high-level customer service regarding human resource practices and solutions in a consultative, collaborative approach.  

Responsibilities:

• Provides high-level and generalist human resources functions for assigned geographic regions including employee relations issues, coordinating performance appraisal process, training, and development. 

• Assists with the investigation, documentation and resolution of allegations of harassment and discrimination. Assist with the management of worker’s compensation claims as needed. 

• Responds to employee relations issues or requests. Within scope of authority provides counsel through the interpretation of policies and programs, and guidance and coaching in areas of discipline, payroll, benefits, and other employee relations areas; escalates issues and recommend solutions to senior management as necessary. 

• Administers Leave of Absence programs including medical, FMLA, personal and family care. Generates/submits appropriate paperwork and to ensure coordination of benefits. Provides direction in program benefits questions or employee concerns. 

• As needed, works in conjunction with recruiting department and/or hiring managers to fill jobs; writes ads, sources candidates, reviews resumes, interviews candidates and refers the most qualified candidates to the hiring manager to determine and extend job offer in a timely manner. 

• Conducts background and reference checks on applicants following current regulations; may work with outside agencies to complete checks. Documents responses. 

• Conducts new hire orientation training and review company policies and procedures. 

• Reviews and ensures the completion of all paperwork associated with hiring process including employment application, background check authorization, new hire, benefits enrollment and payroll forms in a timely manner. 

• Prepares letters, memos, reports and related correspondence that provides information on ESSC HR policies, programs, practices; generates general business correspondence. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field and 3-5 years of relevant experience. Experience must include recruitment, associate relations, training and development, benefits administration, legal compliance and compensation. 

• Past HR experience in residential services or social services a plus.

• Ability and willingness to understand the services we provide and maintain a commitment to our mission.

• Ability to establish and maintain a partnership with service line leaders, managers/ supervisors and all other associates.

• Must be flexible and possess a “can-do” attitude.

• Ability to maintain effective communication skills with all levels of staff and the general public.   

• Demonstrated ability to consistently exhibit good judgement and decision-making skills. 

• Ability to work well independently and effectively handle multiple and diverse priorities. 

• Ability to correctly interpret and implement policies, procedures and regulations. 

• Computer skills and working knowledge of Word programs.

• Must be a self-starter, teamwork oriented and able to adapt to change. 

• Able to travel locally, reliable transportation, Valid California Driver’s License, auto insurance and registration. Ability to meet transportation safety program driving standards. 

• Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance.

• English/Spanish bilingual skills a plus.
