Job Description

The Edwardsville YMCA is looking for a highly motivated swim coach to  coach our Edwardsville Breakers swim team. The ideal candidate must have: technical skills to teach, ability to communicate with swimmers, work well with parents, and keep the mission of the Y at the forefront.
Weekly practice schedule is Monday-Friday 2:30-7:30pm, Saturday morning 9-11:30am.   Must have availability to travel and coach weekend meets, 6-8+ hours per day, as required and in addition to weekly coaching hours. 

Qualifications

1. Excellent customer service, adaptability and problem solving skills to ensure swim team member satisfaction and retention.
2. Ability to work independently.
3. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
4. High degree of accuracy with information provided, multi-task oriented; able to take initiative; effective organizational skills; and effective communication skills.
5. Clear understanding of technical aspects of swimming: stroke technique; diving; turns; etc.
6. Comes to practice prepared and on time. Good attendance, available to lead all practice times and cover as necessary for head coach.
7. Accepts mentoring and coaching as a way to improve upon individual and team goals.
8. Creates a fun, positive, and supportive environment for swim team participants
The following certifications are required: Current Lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid. Prefer YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or a coaching certification, experience with Team and Meet Manager.

Physical Demand

1. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children's activities.
2. Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.
3. Work will require occasional travel.
4. Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously and handle tension and a stress in a positive manner
