Job Description

The Business Controller is responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and in-depth financial analysis for a portfolio of business units within the US Environment Business Line.

This role partners closely with business leaders to enhance financial visibility, improve forecasting accuracy, strengthen cost control, evaluate capital investments, and ensure the integrity of month-end financial results, including appropriate accruals and accounting accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide business units with timely and accurate financial reports, KPIs, and performance metrics

  • Partner with operational leaders to prepare budgets, forecasts, and mid-term financial plans

  • Review and validate month-end preliminary P&Ls; collaborate with the National Service Center (NSC) to ensure necessary adjustments are completed

  • Prepare, review, and validate key accruals to ensure accounting accuracy

  • Deliver clear and insightful monthly financial commentary

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Analyze financial performance and provide actionable recommendations to improve profitability and cost control

  • Prepare and analyze annual budgets based on historical performance and future expectations

  • Review cost data and identify opportunities for operational efficiency and expense optimization

  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to business leaders, supporting decision-making with data-driven insights

Capital & Investment Oversight

  • Review capital expenditure (CapEx) requests and investment opportunities; assess financial metrics and return expectations

  • Ensure capital spending is effectively controlled and aligned with strategic objectives

  • Prepare and submit Spending & Contracting Authority (S&CA) deviation forms and related documentation, including financial forecasts

Operational & Compliance Support

  • Oversee annual inventory counts and fixed asset physical verifications for assigned business units

  • Support accounts receivable collections efforts to help achieve cash flow targets

  • Assist the NSC with cash funding requests to Treasury

  • Distribute and monitor the monthly Invoiced Not Received (INR) report

Strategic & M&A Support

  • Prepare financial projections for M&A activities

  • Support the financial integration of newly acquired businesses

Qualifications

Education:

  • BS/BA in Accounting or related field. Minimum 7 years of total experience, among which 5 in a similar position.
  • CPA, CMA or Masters of Business or Accounting/Finance considered a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with accounting and financial reporting systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data

  • Solid understanding of financial and mathematical concepts

  • Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and report financial results

  • Experience conducting trend analysis and identifying performance drivers

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently while effectively partnering with cross-functional teams
