Fairway Market is one of the highest grossing retailers per square ft. in the United States. At the moment we have 12 locations and are constantly expanding (as we look to open 3-4 stores a year for the next 5-6 years). The company currently has stores in the Tri-State Area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut). Fairway provides excellent opportunities in kosher, organic, specialty and traditional groceries. Our stores consist of multiple departments which include but are not limited to the Front End, Bakery, Deli, Organics, Vitamin, Seafood, Receiving, Cheese, Meat, Kitchen, Coffee, Dairy and more.

Job Description

To give excellent, friendly, upbeat customer service while greeting, ringing up items and exiting customers. To clean and organize the Front End Area, and complete shift duties. Also Cashiers must insure cash registers are attended to, organized, running smoothly and effectively, and that each register has sufficent money in order for cashiers to properly distribute change to customers. In addition Cashiers must have outstanding organizational and public speaking skills. Cashiers at times can be the first face of the store but definitely the last, it is important to make good impressions and maintain relationships.


  • Ability to make a good impression on first time customers.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers and employees.
  • Serve customers efficiently through knowledge of all products and varieties, as well as product location.
  • Insure customers are taken care of in a timely as well as professional manner.
  • Keep department organized and clean at all times, following company and department sanitation guidelines.
  • Ensure POS systems are running smoothly and functioning properly.
  • Communicate with other Department Managers to improve the overall outlook, reputation and profitability of the store in general.
  • Set up, organize, and maintain professional item display of products for the customers.
  • Maintain professional appearance at all times.
  • Serve as a role model and lead by example.
  • Make sure that customers leave happy, satisfied and are given an experience like "No Other Market." 
  • Fulfill all shift duties.


  • Required frequently: standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching,  ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Customer Service

  • Offer product samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in a friendly, courteous manner



  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos [in English]. Ability to write simple correspondence [in English]. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization who only speak English.
  • Must have basic math skills which include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as department manual.
  • Ability to adapt to the ever changing high volume retail while working in a cross-functional team environment .
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment.
  • Previous cashier experience is needed.
  • Understanding what it means to be organized while multi-tasking. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task, balance friendliness with efficiency, and maintain focus. 
  • Must have a flexible work schedule. 


  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Previous food service experience.
  • Experience in a fast pace environment.
  • Knowledge of merchandising and pricing.
  • Passion for teaching, mentoring, working in a team setting.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively.
  • Understanding of how to operate the Front End of a retail/grocery store.
