Job Description

The Grants & Contracts Manager is responsible for the stewardship and development of Families First’s
$5.5 million government grants and contract portfolio. The successful candidate is an organized and focused leader with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through. S/he is a persuasive communicator who is able to motivate
peers and colleagues to work towards excellence. Finally, the Grants Manager must enjoy the diverse and demanding tasks associated with grants development, specifically, research, analysis, writing, communication and organization.

Grant-Writing

  • Write and submit clear, compelling, well-written government grant  and contract proposals.
  • Coordinate, plan and partner with: Program Directors and Managers to design grant requests; and Finance, HR, CQI, Fund Development and IT to gather information necessary to report to government funders.
  • Coordinate United Way annual grant submission process.

Grants Management

  • Track and report on grant-seeking pipeline, including
    the number and dollar amounts of proposals vetted, screened, submitted,
    awarded, received, pending and rejected.
  • Coordinate with the Resource Development staff to maintain and update grant information in the Agency's donor database, Raiser’s Edge; and organize and maintain electronic and hard files.
  • Track and coordinate Agency response to government funder requirements, including contracts, reports, audits and data.
  • Research, identify, solicit and steward government grants.

Fund Development

  • Work with the Chief Development Officer, Chief Program Officer, and staff to identify and refine priorities, needs and new program ideas to pursue through grant development.
  • Support the Fund Development team in pursuing private and corporate funding as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong project management success that includes meeting deadlines, delivering excellence, and providing adequate time for consensus-building, especially approvals, reviews and feedback.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently and in concert with other staff, board members and volunteers
  • Advanced skill level in Microsoft Office Suite; database management; online grant applications; Adobe Acrobat Professional, Raiser’s Edge a plus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of four years grant-writing experience, including two years of government grant-writing.
  • Knowledge and experience that includes: Human service programs and issues, especially homelessness, mental health, child welfare, early, child and
    adolescent development, parenting and/or reproductive health; and
  • Federal and state government granting agencies, especially, HUD, SAMHSA, CDC and/or ACF.
  • Corporate and Foundation funding knowledge a plus.
