Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Develop, maintain, and monitor product quality and safety systems at the 7 Commodities plants. Ensure compliance with company quality standards, customer requirements, and FDA/CDFA/AAFCO regulatory requirements. Research and improve regulatory compliance regarding HACCP programs, SSOPs, SOPs, recall programs, audit preparation and ensuring employee compliance to GMPs.

Manage Product Safety and Quality Systems for Commodities plants (Livingston Rendering, Farmerville Rendering, Burrel Fertilizer, and Livingston Fertilizer/Kopro)

Requirements:

Oversee Product Safety and Quality Systems for Commodities plants (Kingsburg including lab, Traver Roller Mill, and Turlock Roller Mill)

Ongoing supplier audits and compliance

Regulatory compliance – Advise on new issues and regulations

Train pertinent staff in quality and product safety

Corrective actions, root cause analysis, and product disposition

Develop and implement a standardized Food Safety Plan that satisfies the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act. Responsible for assisting the operations managers in education, implementation and program compliance in addition to record keeping and overseeing internal audits of processes and procedures at specified intervals.

Develop, maintain, and implement microbiological testing programs and manage the hold and release process for test and hold facilities.

Direct program implementation and verification at 4 commodities facilities (Livingston rendering, Farmerville rendering, Burrel fertilizer, and Livingston fertilizer plants) and oversee supervision of programs at 3 commodities facilities (Kingsburg, Livingston Roll Mill, and Traver Roll Mill).

Oversee supervision of the Kingsburg laboratory including laboratory programs and testing methodologies.

Serve as a Food/Feed Safety Plan Team Leader Designee and Preventative Control Qualified Individual (FSMA) for the assigned facilities.

Lead supplier audits and complete supplier approval questionnaires.

Review and approve microbiological claims for all applicable commodities products.

Conduct routine on-site internal audits of the facilities to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, customer required certifications, and company prescribed standards.

Direct and perform data analysis to monitor trends and identify emerging risks and opportunities.

Assist in development and implementation of Supplier Verification Program to meet FSMA requirements.

Assist operations management in implementing and maintaining the Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions necessary to achieve quality and product safety standards.

Work with operations management to outline and improve product tracking and perform mock recall drills to evaluate trace-ability system.

Develop and implement product quality programs. Oversee ingredient and product sampling, perform quality measurements and prepare analysis for products to ensure compliance with all quality criteria. Create and/or maintain and manage appropriate paper and electronic documentation.

Assess and respond to customer complaints.

Interface with departments responsible for the purchasing of ingredients to ensure prescribed quality standards are achieved.

Conduct on-site audits of suppliers to ensure adherence to product quality and safety standards.

Assist with general problem solutions regarding plant processing, inventories, new systems, etc.

Maintain FDA annual registrations and Bioterrorism registrations for facilities



Qualifications

BS Degree (preferably Food Science, Meat/Poultry Science, Chemistry or related field)

Minimum 5 years Quality Management Experience, experience in feed manufacturing preferred.

Must be detailed oriented, have strong mathematical and analytical aptitude.

Must have the ability to make sound judgment and good decisions regarding quality and wholesomeness of product.

Able to prioritize/adjust quickly to changing work environment with minimal supervision to meet changing plant needs.

Strong Leadership, managerial skills, and the ability to coach and develop employees

Experienced in FDA/CDFA/AAFCO/Organic Regulations, HACCP, GMP’s SSOP’s, SPC

Able to work flexible hours; ability to travel as needed

Proficient use of PC including Excel, Word, Access, and Power point
