Job Description

Purpose:
To assure Foster Farms maintains a competitive advantage by developing and implementing new packaging technologies for new and existing products. Develop and implement product packaging strategies that incorporate breakthrough technology, product innovation, and operational services, at the lowest total cost. Provide packaging leadership and strategic management to the company’s Operations and Marketing departments.

Essential Job Functions:

Manage the packaging design aspects of new products across all production facilities working in conjunction with Marketing, Operations, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and company suppliers.

Direct the technical development of new product packaging during the prototype design layout stage.

Direct and lead the develop prototype product specifications incorporating target operations machinery resulting in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for both structure and equipment. Start up protocol for plant trials and commercialization stage using commonly accepted KPIs from Operations and Marketing.

Oversee new product plant trials and first commercialization runs, gaining Plant Management and Marketing acceptance.

Ensure sufficient technical expertise to assure all company packaging is best in class with regards to new technologies and structures, respective of current machinery, and the functionality of the individual finished good.

Identify opportunities working with Suppliers, Operations, Marketing and Purchasing.

Lead and direct prioritized project lists with input from Marketing, Operations, Product Development and Purchasing.

Develop big picture/long term solutions for respective problems

Additional Functions:
Participate in Industry organizations as appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

BS degree in Packaging, Engineering, with an emphasis in flexible.

Five-ten years of direct involvement in product development and commercialization testing.

Proven project management skills and the ability to create change across multiple departments.

Must have a broad business perspective of the requirements for operating within a large vertically integrated organization.

Must have strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment and decision-making ability

Must be able to communicate effectively with varying levels of management and team leads, both written and verbal

Preferred Requirements:

Broad knowledge of domestic food packaging requirements.

Field/Plant work required


Physical Requirements:

Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to Corporate locations 50%

Must be able to obtain CA drivers license and be able to drive to various company and vendor locations

Must be able to have consistent attendance in the Dublin office, or other assigned Foster Farms’ Office

Must be able to sit for long periods of time.

Must be able to work on the computer for long periods of time
