Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Manage safe and cost effective operation of the Fertilizer Plant to include: Production scheduling, preparation of annual budget, determination of capital needs, raw material supply and environmental compliance. Manage the Fertilizer Trucking operation to include company truck/loader fleet and contracting outside sub-haulers. Manage decision making for manure removal from company ranches including changing quantity and quality, Bio-Security requirements for Live Production and customer demand. Oversee product recalls for the facility. Oversee records and SOPs required for all Plant Functions. Manage truck drivers and all accompanying policies and regulations to ensure safe and cost effective transportation of liquid and dry products.

Essential Functions:

Manage the Fertilizer Plant and trucking to ensure the following:

Safe, efficient, and economical production of feed/fertilizer and transportation/stockpiling of manure.

Compliance with company and government quality control standards.

Compliance with Department, Division, and Corporate policies and procedures.

Compliance with company and government safety regulations.

Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet current and long range production and transportation demands.

Ensure adequate equipment to meet current and long term demands, this includes input into the fleet replacement plans and modifications to the plant.

Plan, request, and implement Capital Projects as needed for current and long-term demands.

Maintain adequate inventory of raw material for the facility.

Manage manure disposition to include:

Maintain an adequate fleet of company trucks, drivers, front-end loaders, and sub-haulers to meet deadlines on ranches.

Maintain adequate inventory space in the storage yard for potential cleanouts.

Maintain storage yard to ensure its ability to receive product under various weather conditions. This includes land leveling, road maintenance, paving, and storm water drainage.

Make decisions on where the manure is going to go based on location of manure, quality and quantity of manure, Fertilizer/Kopro Plant needs, inventory levels, customer demand, safety, weather, and bio-security issues while keeping these decisions in accordance with company goals and regulatory guidelines.

Make decisions on transportation of the manure based on volumes, hauling distances, availability of equipment, safety, and regulatory guidelines.

Manage EHS compliance including:

Compliance of Air Board requirements in regards to particulate emissions on dust control measures for the Fertilizer Plant, roadways, storage yard, and composting operations. This includes responsibility for monitoring, maintenance to systems, record keeping, and employee training.

Compliance of Water Board issues including storm water management, ground water remediation, and non transient-non community water source. This includes responsibility for monitoring, maintenance to systems, record keeping, and employee training.

E.P.A. Compliance on audits, nutrient management practices, groundwater and storm water issues.

Assist Environmental Manager with annual environmental training, audits, and documentation.

Compliance with all hazardous material use, training, storage, and disposal issues.

Manage accounting functions of the plant:

Oversee period end inventory process and posting.

Verify production transactions are correct and timely.

Ensure production variances are researched and explained.

Quantify and control plant shrink.

Work with purchasing agents to ensure MRP parameters and up to date and utilized.

Approve purchases requisitions.

Manage facility maintenance program:

Scope and prepare capital projects in accordance with department objectives.

Create and maintain facility pm program. Assign and monitor progress on maintenance work orders.

Manage parts ordering and back up parts inventory.

Qualifications

Requirements:

5 years of supervisory work experience in all phases of Operations, Maintenance, and Production.

BS/BA is Business Management or related field preferred.

Working knowledge of heavy equipment.

Experience with fleet operations of heavy trucks, working in both on-road and off-road situations.

Good interpersonal and communication skills required.

Knowledge of farming, fertilizer/nutrient management preferred.

Ability to forecast and respond to variables, including: production fluctuations and sales demand.

Ability to respond and thrive in a frequently changing and fast paced work environment.

Proficient in Microsoft Office. SAP experience helpful.

Ability to work at heights and climb ladders up to 100’.

Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and a frequently dusty environment.
