Job Description

Purpose of position:
Will assist and support the R&D documentation and labeling function. This position will document specifications including updating and issuing specification for ingredients and finished products of all company SKU’s. The position will deal with sensitive information about label specifications. This position will coordinate changes to existing specifications, the implementation of new specifications, and the auditing of existing specifications. The position will work with R&D, Operations, and Q.A. to assure that all ingredient, raw material, and finished product specifications are accurate and timely. Completing the document specification and labels will require accuracy and completion in a timely manner. Position will assemble label transmittal information for approval by their supervisor. Will also coordinate changes to existing and the creation of new internally generated labels in support of the PCR and ATP processes.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Manage a process to continually audit ingredient, raw material, and finished product specifications. Contact ingredient suppliers and request updated specifications as needed.
2. Complete, document and issue new and modified ingredient, raw material and finished product specifications.
3. Work closely with R&D, Purchasing, Q.A., Plant Operations and Master Data to implement specifications changes to existing products and new products.
4. Create and develop product labels in Blade or other internal label creation software and ensure all the information is accurate
5. Will work with nformation pertaining to the labeling law that is published in the Code of Federal Regulation, otherwise known as CFR. This is where the basic meat and poultry regulations are published in the CFR and any updates to the laws are published weekly.
6. Will work with and learn USDA directives that affect labeling and ingredient usage.
7. Proof draft label copy for accuracy and regulatory compliance and assemble and coordinate label transmittals including product formulation documentation for approval
8. Assist in the internal label generation and approval process including verification of the accuracy of in-plant printed labels
9. Verify labels/ingredient statements for accuracy to specification
10. Maintain and keep accurate active label approval files for all plants

Additional Functions:
1. Other duties as assigned by manager
2. Maintain activity logs and track projects
3. Answer ingredient content inquiries

Qualifications

Requirements:
1. Some college courses, Bachelors degree preferred in Food Science
2. Prefer one-three years of relevant regulatory experience
3. Prefer basic knowledge of USDA labeling requirements and regulations or have the ability to learn information quickly
4. Knowledge of internal (Blade and Marel) label system, SAP BOM and Master Data
5. Knowledge of basic USDA label requirements and knowledge of Internal labeling systems
6. Ability to organize, coordinate and implement complicated product changes
7. Strong PC skill including Word, Excel, SAP and database software
8. Must have a high degree of organization and prioritization skills
