Job Description

Purpose of position:

Analyze appropriate general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers and prepares/files related tax compliance associated with 1) Real and Personal Property Tax 2) Sales and Use Tax and 3) various miscellaneous tax filings including gross receipts and fuels taxes. Responds to related taxing authority audits. Will assist with real and personal property tax appeals, support income tax filings and researches tax issues as necessary. Participate in department initiatives and special projects as needed.


Essential Job Functions:

1. Sales and use tax compliance – Download SAP reports, import into Excel, analyze and review transactions for seven different states as to taxability. Complete relevant tax filing and prepare related journal entry. Review and reconcile account analysis worksheets
2. Property tax compliance—Using PTMS software to download data files with SAP fixed asset records. Make decisions on most accurate way to map and render assets. Reconcile to current and prior years renditions and classify appropriately. Verify accuracy of disposed assets treatment. Reconcile total assets to assets reported. Review for exempt assets. Complete relevant tax filing.
3. Taxing Authority Audits and Appeals – Assist and support managers on taxing authority audits and appeals. Retrieve documents, prepare support schedules and other supporting documentation requested by taxing authority auditors.
4. Analyze Sales tax override reports for errors and prepare reports for distribution to relevant buyers
5. Prepare monthly filings for various fuels tax returns
6. Other - Participation with system and process initiatives, and ad hoc projects as assigned by the Manager

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. BS in Accounting or Business Administration with accounting emphasis
2. One-three years of Accounting/Financial analysis experience, preferably in tax including CPA firm.
3. Strong accounting skills and sound understanding of financial statements
4. Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP, Lacerte)
5. Ability and willingness to learn new computer software and systems.
6. Excellent verbal, written, analytical & communication skills.
7. Must be able to work independently and have a high degree of organization and prioritization skills.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
1. CPA preferred
2. One-two year’s public accounting experience preferred.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must have reliable transportation.
2. Must be able to have consistent attendance.
3. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
4. Must be able to work on the computer for long periods of time
