Friends of Brenda Lenard is a grassroots initiative of the Brenda Lenard for United States Senate campaign. FOBL is composed of 95 various Tennessee county chapters, united by a single statewide campaign. The primary goals of the organization are to increase grassroots support of conservative principles and values while working to alleviate voter apathy. 

The organization's activities are centered around political activism in favor of Brenda Lenard's vision of a Better. Brighter. Bolder America which include upholding the Freedom Flat Tax Act, the Defense of Marriage Act, the Second Amendment, the Secure Fence Act of 2006, in addition to repealing the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), the Online Sales Tax Bill, Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2013 and the EPA's “Utility MACT” Rule.   

Job Description

Friends of Brenda Lenard Fellowship program offer outstanding young leaders the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with each other and the world around them. In return for the privilege of participating in the Fellowship Program, alumni of this professional network   are the future political leaders in their respective communities and professions.

The purpose of the Friends of Brenda Lenard Fellows program is to offer gifted and highly motivated young Americans with a sense of personal involvement in the electoral process and civic engagement.

Work Placement

Engagement in the political process of a federal campaign lies at the heart of a Friends of Brenda Lenard Fellowship. Work assignments can offer unparalleled experience working with senior campaign staffers on issues facing Americans.  

A Friends of Brenda Lenard Fellow devotes six (6) months as a full-time, paid assistant to senior campaign staff. Their assignments demand a capacity for quick learning and a willingness to work hard, often on issues outside of their area of expertise. Responsibilities range from designing and implementing policy iniatives, to drafting speeches for campaign surrogates to representing the campaign in the community.

Job assignments are appointed by the Chief Politcal Adviser one the basis of interviews conducted during "Placement Weekend". In return for the privilege of participating in the Fellowship, At the conclusion of the Fellows program partiicpants are expected to be more experienced in the political process and better prepared to contribute to civil engagement where they reside, work and play. 

Community Service

Community service is a key component of the Friends of Brenda Lenard Fellows program. The fellowship experience includes an emphasis on public service and fellows participate in regularly scheduled service projects at schools and non-profit organizations throughout the state of Tennessee

Education Program

The Education Program is an important aspect of the Fellowship experience, and increases the Fellows’ exposure to emerging leaders from both the private and public sectors. Each class has an opportunity to meet with individuals including elected officials, business executives, philanthropist, senior Friends of Brenda Lenard campaign staff, and journalists. 

While the fellow’s responsibilities and tasks vary by campaign department, all fellows are united through weekly team building events including a weekly speaker series with senior staff members and focus group meetings exploring different campaign aspects and off-site field trips. . 

Qualifications

Selection Process

Selection as a Friends of Brenda Lenard Intern is based on the following criteria:

  • A commitment to public service
  • Demonstrated leadership in the community
  • A commitment to the mission of the Friends of Brenda Lenard campaign. 

The selection process is highly competitive. Applicants are encouraged to submit a thorough application that illustrates qualifications, character, and commitment to public service. A completed application includes two essay questions, two letters of recommendation, and a resume.

Prerequisites

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship, and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four year institution)
  • A veteran of the United States Armed Forces who possesses a high school diploma or its equivalent and has served on active duty, for any length of time, in the two years preceding the first day of the internship
  • Graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four year institution) no more than two years before the first day of the internship

Selection Day

Applicants are interviewd over a one (1) day period by senior members of the Friends of Brenda Lenard organization at the Friends of Brenda Lenard campaign headquarters.

Campaign Selection

The Friends of Brenda Lenard Press Office announces the campaign's official selection off incoming class of Friends of Brenda Lenard Fellows. 

Placement Weekend

Fellows inteview with senior campaign staff for their fellowship six (6) month assignment.
