GATR Technologies has an immediate opening for a Software Design Engineer with the following credentials and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
• Minimum of 7 years software design experience
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in embedded software development

Job Summary:   Ideal candidates have diverse knowledge and a wide variety of interests, especially in wireless/satellite communications and real-time software. You will be responsible for full-process development on a variety of projects involving multiple coding and scripting languages like Java, C, C++, Perl, etc. As a key contributor in a small (1-6 person) multi-disciplinary engineering team, you and the other engineers will have full responsibility for product development throughout the lifecycle from requirements gathering to production and shipping. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and testing of complex embedded software applications for a state-of-the-art communication modem and spectrum analyzer.

You must have the ability to meaningfully communicate with members of all engineering disciplines (hardware, RF, software, FPGA, UI, etc.), as well as management. You will be expected to perform duties in all areas of development (i.e., requirements analysis, high- and low-level design, coding, documentation, and testing and validation). Our products are developed to very high standards of quality and reliability and you will be expected to learn and conform to the department’s software process during all development activities. You must be a flexible, results-oriented problem-solver who requires minimal supervision. Projects can vary greatly from one to the next, so you must thrive on variety and enjoy taking on new challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design firmware for modem, spectrum analyzer, and other electronic components for satellite communications terminal
• Design Graphical User Interface (GUI) on embedded webservers via Ethernet or USB port
• Manage software product development throughout lifecycle from requirements gathering to production and shipping
• Communicate with members of all engineering disciplines (hardware, RF, software, FPGA, UI, etc.), as well as management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficient in Linux, Java, C, C++, Perl, and other software languages and operating systems
• Experience with application development on Apple and Android platforms
• Experience with network hardware and software such as servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and security
• Strong technical writing skills
• Ability to work in an open, collaborative team atmosphere

• Limited travel may be required
