Job Description

As our Compliance Officer, you can expect to:

  • Implement compliance requirements and initiatives that have a direct impact on operational processes

  • Serve as Project Leader for compliance or legal-specific implementation projects in support of all of our business units

  • Own and supervise our regulatory consumer complaint process and our dispute/operations communication approval process, including responses issued to regulatory bodies

  • Develop and review operational compliance training regarding new portfolios, changes to or implementation of operational processes with low to moderate compliance risk

  • Research and analyze compliance issues to answer compliance questions and provide management with recommendations for improvement

  • Leads simple to moderately complex project/process teams to ensure that compliance with applicable regulations is addressed in operational process flows during project and process development

  • Assist in the development and review of internal staff or partner/vendor communications

  • Regularly discuss issues that may hold legal or financial implications to Genesis with our Director of Compliance and/or General Counsel

  • Represents Compliance/Legal on Incident Process Team regarding operational incidents with potential compliance exposure, and actively participate in resolution teams, root cause identification, and validating amendments to broken processes

  • Maintain a detailed understanding of pertinent regulations, laws, legislation, rules, market and industry trends, etc.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in a collection, legal, or banking environment specifically in a compliance, audit or legal department

  • Proven experience in consumer lending and debt recover is required

  • Operational Quality Assurance experience desired, primarily to assist operations with control parameters within operational processes

  • Well versed in federal Consumer Credit Protection Act laws & regulations with an emphasis on the Truth in Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Privacy Act

  • Must possess extreme attention to detail, strong organizational skills, analytical thinking ability and the ability to work independently or in a team

  • Must have the ability to communicate complex regulatory requirements to all levels of staff

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in using Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and Microsoft Project, or willingness to attain such skills

  • Skilled in multi-tasking, prioritizing, and embracing consistent change

  • Flexible, non-confrontational interpersonal skills, a high level of confidentiality, knowledge of GFS’ mission and ethics statements, and high tolerance for rapid change are imperative

  • Travel is minimal and is generally for skill development
