Job Description

Role and Responsibilities of the Marketing Coordinator / Public Affairs Officer

The Marketing Coordinator/Public Affairs Officer (PAO) will plan, supervise, and perform all aspects of command information, public information, and community relations within the recruiting district. The contractor will establish and maintain mutual communications among Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) and the general public and various other pertinent communities including internal or external, foreign or domestic audiences.

 

The Marketing Coordinator/PAO reports directly to the Commanding Officer and/or the Executive Officer as described in the Standard Operating Procedures Manual (COMNAVCRUITCOMINST 5400.2). The Marketing Coordinator/PAO shall provide assistance and advice on policy formulation and execute the public communication requirements inherent in disseminating policy decisions, identifying communication needs and developing materials that inform appropriate communities of the policies, programs, services, and activities of NRC.

 

The Marketing Coordinator/PAO coordinates with Commander Navy Recruiting Command (CNRC) N4 Warehouse for the supply of Recruiting Aid Devices (RAD) to the respective Navy Recruiting Districts (NRD) and Navy Recruiting Stations (NRS).

 

The Public Affairs reporting chain is through the NRC PAO. There is no direct interaction between the NRD PAO and the national advertising agency. The NRD PAO will work with a Public Relations (PR) firm to support NRC public affairs objectives. 

 

Primary Objectives of the Marketing Coordinator / Public Affairs Officer

  • Coordinates with Navy Recruiting Command Leadership for input and assistance to produce NRC oral and written products;
  • Provides assistance in coordinating the annual Navy Recruiting District PAO Conference;
  • Provides assistance in coordinating the annual Recruiter of the Year activities;
  • Coordinates requests for information from media representative within NRC and provide support to NRC media activities;
  • Is familiar with the Navy Recruiting Command’s programs;
  • Ability to obtain new enlisted and officer contract information through liaison with other departments;
  • Assists in writing and/or reviewing articles for release in Navy Recruiter magazine and other internal and external publications;
  • Develops technical documents and briefing materials for recruiting purposes;
  • Program execution tracking and reporting;
  • Process management.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • This position may require a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or an Associate’s Degree in a related field with two (2) to four (4) years in the field or in a related area;
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures for developing Navy Recruiting Material;
  • Detailed knowledge of COMNAVCRUITCOMINST 5400.2;
  • Possess analytical skills and experience;
  • Proficient in MS office products.

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the SAE’s job.  Employees must possess the ability to work in a standard office or conference room setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer. To visit customer sites, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle and fly in an aircraft, both of which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time. Employees must possess vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups and over the telephone. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas will be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, cell phone or calculator, and to operate standard office equipment. This position requires an employee to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance; reach, push, and pull drawers and doors open and closed. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment

 

Employees’ work environments may vary. The typical and most common environment will be an office or conference room setting with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances.  There may be occasions while performing the duties of this position where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles, inclement weather, and noise exceeding safe levels outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. The employee is required to comply with the safety laws, rules, and regulations governing the client site operations during customer visits, which includes wearing the recommended protective gear. A current, valid driver’s license is required for this position.
