The Adult Education Instructor provides instruction and support to adult students to advance their educational, computer literacy levels and job seeking skills in an effort to improve their employment opportunities. Work closely with Employment Services staff for job placement.

Job Description

SPECIFIC DUTIES

JOB PLACEMENT IS A MANDATORY RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL ES AND MS STAFF EMPLOYED BY GISNJ/QC

  1. Develop and implement curriculum for Adult Basic Education, GED Preparation, computer literacy and Job Seeking skills.
  2. Provides instruction in various adult learning methods and mediums.
  3. Provides basic literacy and GED Preparation instruction.
  4. Provides basic computer literacy instruction to individuals unfamiliar with how to utilize a computer. Includes what is a computer, accessing and using the internet, setting up e-mail, completing on-line applications, creating and saving documents.
  5. Provides instruction in various job seeking techniques and job search skills.
  6. Provides instruction in various software programs commonly utilized in today’s office environment.
  7. Provides supervision and motivation to students enrolled in each skills program.
  8. Insures appropriate and current orientation in proper use of automated office equipment.
  9. Provides orientation to work place ethics and behaviors.
  10. Communicates with referring agencies and families regarding progress and development of students.
  11. Supplements students case records with documentation's as necessary.
  12. Responsible to record and maintain all data of students in the GoodTrak system.
  13. Act as a positive role model for employees, students, and customers in all aspects of professional performance.
  14. Responsible to follow company policies and safety procedures.
  15. Regular attendance is required.
  16. Other duties as assigned (non-essential).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
  2. Technical skills in programs that are being taught and the ability to learn others.
  3. Flexibility to cover other areas of Goodwill when needed.
  4. Flexibility to work various hours including, evenings and weekends.
  5. Valid driver’s license/means of transportation.
  6. Must be able to interact with a variety of people.
  7. Ability to teach students all necessary skills for successful job placement.
  8. Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs. frequently with occasional periods of lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  9. Ability to function in hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
  10. Ability to engage in long periods of sitting, standing and/or walking

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum of an Associate’s Degree. Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Certificate preferred. Two years teaching experience preferred.
