Job Description

Complete welding of company’s products, performing such work consistent with corporate mission, values and departmental financial objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Qualify in the 3G position using SMAW and FCAW welding processes.

  • Be able to perform fillet welds in the 1, 2 and 3F positions using FCAW and SMAW welding processes.

  • Be able to perform CJP, PJP in the 1, 2, and 3G welding positions using FCAW and SMAW welding processes.

  • Effectively set up and operate air carbon arc gouging equipment.

  • Perform production welding and other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

  • Be willing and able to operate various pieces of grinding equipment for extended periods of time.

  • Understand and interpret basic shop drawings, prints and weld symbols.

  • Able to read and use standard and metric measuring devices.

  • Inspect product to ensure quality and be able to identify and correct unacceptable areas.

  • Identify potential hazards and make necessary corrections.

  • Be able to perform with minimal assistance from supervisor.

  • Learn basic crane operation and safety.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to: cleaning, trash and scrap removal and other production-related jobs.

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective, professional manner with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors.

  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of work area and shop.

  • Work in a safe and conscientious manner

Canam Lean Innovation  
Support the Canam Lean Initiative through active engagement and participation in continuous process improvement projects based in Lean Manufacturing Principles.
 

Participate in training's and continuing education events to develop a working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles and build a consistent “Lean Way of thinking”.

Assist in the collection of data, participate in Kaizen workshops and contribute to the implementation of solutions, replicate successful improvements, share lessons learned and provide feedback on opportunities for change that will further the continuous improvement process.

This is a safety-sensitive position.  A safety-sensitive position has been defined as one where the employee’s responsibilities impact the health and safety of themselves, coworkers and / or the public (in this case the end-user of our product).  All production and production support positions fall into this category.  

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of two years related welding experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess basic reading and mathematical skills.

Additional Information

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The ability to stand continuously is essential with occasional walking and sitting. The nature of the position will require the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying heavy objects ( 60–100 lbs.) climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling. Repetitive motions and awkward body positioning. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The following working environments are as follows but not limited to:
Required to work near moving mechanical parts and machinery. Working conditions may include being outside or inside in all environmental conditions. Potential exposure to: fumes and airborne particulates. Potential risk of electric shock. Potential burn hazards such as: UV light radiation, open flames, sparks and other sources. Noise levels in the work environment will require the use of appropriate hearing protection at all times. The correct usage of PPE will be required at all times.
