Job Description

Prepares work orders for the shop and maintains records of what is released consistent with corporate mission, values and departmental financial objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates computer generated shop orders from drawings, blueprints, and bills of material for basic and standard products

  • Creates shop orders from fabrication list

  • Programs CNC machines and creates shop orders

  • Reviews new projects and ensures accuracy and completeness of bills of materials

  • Prepares special details as required for shop

  • Maintains inventory control 

  • Issues shop drawings to all department supervisors

  • Maintains a log of pieces released for each sequence of each project

  • Provides corrective measures whenever possible when products are manufactured incorrectly

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from different department managers and customers

  • Ability to operate necessary computer software (i.e. SigmaNest, AutoCAD, Google or Office Suite, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of geometric operations

  • Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Motivation; is a self-starter and has the ability to prioritize with strong attention to detail
  • PC experience with Microsoft Windows, Office or Google Suite and Oracle 

  • Willingness to work on various projects 

  • Proficient data entry skills and an interest in learning new in-house applications

  • Sound communication skills 

  • The ability to multi-task efficiently while remaining highly self-motivated

  • A friendly, patient, outgoing, enthusiastic, team-oriented work ethic and a strong commitment to organizational values 

  • Punctuality, maturity, reliability, and the ability to work well under pressure with frequent interruptions while delivering exceptional customer service are also essential to succeed in this role

  • Six months to one year in drafting or related field or experience in bridge manufacturing industry

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as contract drawings, blueprints, and specifications

Canam Lean Innovation  

Support the Canam Lean Initiative through active engagement and participation in continuous process improvement projects based in Lean Manufacturing Principles.

Participate in training and continuing education events to develop a working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles and build a consistent “Lean Way of Thinking”.

Assist in the collection of data, participate in Kaizen workshops and contribute to the implementation of solutions, replicate successful improvements, share lessons learned and provide feedback on opportunities for change that will further the continuous improvement process.
