Job Description

Responsible for directing, scheduling and controlling all plant engineering/maintenance functions in order to obtain optimum safety and efficiencies from the equipment, utilities and overall facilities. This role is a part of the site's senior leadership team and reports directly to the Regional General Manager

Essential Functions:

  • Achieve world-class reliability and maintenance effectiveness by delivering best practices across the site and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Maintain the highest standards of safety, security, health and environment and will be responsible for provincial standards relating to asset integrity.

  • Lead electricians, millwrights and technicians to ensure safety standards, cost-effective reactive, preventive and predictive maintenance programs are performed to support manufacturing operations.

  • Work closely with Plant Manager to plan the best use of all equipment and manpower to achieve the most effective results to safety and manufacturing operations.

  • Provide direct ongoing support to all areas for expeditious troubleshooting and resolution of equipment breakdowns, production delays and quality issues.

  • Manage the Maintenance Planning Execution (MPE) work process.

  • Manage budget, reviewing performance metrics for trends, developing action plans to realize improvements, and performing MPE management system assessments.

  • Analyze manufacturing equipment performance to identify sources of downtime and scrap production; allocate and prioritize maintenance resources to determine root causes of equipment performance problems and correct them.

  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement workshops and ensure the sustainability of all improvements by revising or creating Preventative Maintenance (standard work) procedures.

  • Manage personnel activities in the department, such as recruitment, hiring, training, coaching, succession planning and performance evaluations.

  • Manage the work of outside contractors or trades personnel required for the completion of projects.

  • Source and screen new suppliers and technologies to determine their capabilities in fulfilling, maintenance, production, safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage KPI’s and planning board, perform safety inspections and staff meetings, and conduct incident investigations.

  • Provide input to a Risk Management Plan that will anticipate reliability-related, and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact plant operation.

  • Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues. To fulfill this responsibility the Reliability and Maintenance Manager applies:

    • Data analysis techniques that can include: Statistical process control, Reliability modeling and prediction, Six sigma (6σ) Methodology, Root-Cause and Root-Cause Failure Analysis (RCA, RCFA), Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).

  • Manage process-related documentation and ensure departmental records, manuals, specifications, SOPs, Master Equipment Files, and all as-built and master set drawings are kept in compliance with Company, WHMIS standards, regulations and legal requirements.

  • Set expectations, following through on completion, and confirming results.

Qualifications

  • Certified Millwright, Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent from a recognized academic institution or, Electrician or Technician.
  • A minimum of 5 years working in a Reliability and/or Maintenance Manager capacity.
  • Minimum 10 years of combined professional experience in Maintenance/Operations, Project management, and Reliability Engineering.
  • Experience with predictive maintenance technologies, Root Cause Failure Analysis and Reliability Centered Maintenance.
  • Good understanding of the budgeting and project management processes.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) license is an asset.
  • Demonstrate initiative, excellent problem-solving and project management skills, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work in a multi-discipline team and manage technical personnel in a union environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and ability to facilitate.
