As a Tax Assistant in the Finance and Accounting department, your main focus is to support the accurate and timely execution of tax-related processes, ensuring compliance with local and international tax regulations. This role is responsible for assisting in tax reconciliations, preparing provisions, managing tax filings, and maintaining proper documentation for audits and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the position provides analytical support to the tax team, handles intercompany transactions, and collaborates with government entities to guarantee adherence to formal obligations and optimize tax processes in the routines in an efficient way following our values.

This role reports into our Accounting Manager for MX-CO-EC with a dotted line to our Global Tax Team and is based out of the Mexico City Support Office.

Job Description

A Day in the Life

Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities*

  • Perform accounting and tax adjustments related to taxes withheld from suppliers
  • Reconcile tax accounts against tax returns
  • Reconcile revenue accounts against accounting records
  • Prepare provisions for income taxes & profit sharing and record them periodically
  • Intercompany: Prepare and send electronic invoices for related-party transactions; analyze and record applicable withholdings for income tax and VAT on these operations
  • Review and analyze tax withholdings on invoices in VIM (Taxaudit) to ensure proper tax recording
  • Provide support to the Tax Coordinator in analyzing tax information
  • Prepare and monitor exogenous and foreign exchange information required by national and municipal authorities
  • Manage reports for government entities such as: Central Bank, DANE, Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, and municipal Treasury Departments
  • Process registration and/or updates in RUT, RIT, and Chamber of Commerce
  • Manage the tax authority web platforms (DIAN, SRI, SAT) to ensure compliance with formal obligations
  • Analyze, review, and propose applicable withholdings on purchases of goods and services from foreign suppliers
  • Review and record settlements from the Impex area
  • Prepare and deliver withholding certificates to third parties
  • Support in preparing VAT refund requests before tax authorities
  • Prepare documentation for VAT refunds for GBC and HM Service
  • Monitor compliance with REPSE obligations and payment complements in Mexico
  • Perform account reconciliations in Cadency for tax-related accounts

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • Professional in Public Accounting
  • At least 3 years of experience in the accounting and tax area
  • SAP level and Excel level: Medium
  • English level: Intermediate
  • Knowledge of tax regulations
  • Knowledge in IFRS
  • Teamwork, proposing ideas, pro-active, and able to delegate responsibilities
