Job Description

The Respiratory Therapy Manager provides respiratory therapy by physician’s order according to policy and procedure and completes all related documentation, communication, maintenance and continuing education.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assists with evaluation; selection and coordination of admission of vent dependent people.
  • Manages acute and chronic respiratory problems in collaboration with Medical Director. Maintains appropriate documentation to comply with regulatory agencies and communicates effectively with Medical Director, Director of Nursing, nurses, families/guardians and other members of the Interdisciplinary Team as appropriate.
  • Supervises staff respiratory therapists and validates skill competencies.
  • Oversees the evaluation and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
  • Provides education to staff about respiratory therapy related issues for ongoing continuing education. May collaborate with Staff Development to develop and arrange training pertaining to respiratory therapy as needed. Assists with teaching student nurses, medical students and residents as needed.
  • Participates in internal committees as agreed upon with supervisor including but not limited to Safety, Infection Control, Quality, Medical Case Review, HLCCD Leadership Council, Vent Team
  • Collaborates with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, nurses and other members of the Interdisciplinary Team to ensure an effective plan of respiratory care for each person served.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining respiratory therapy policies and procedures as needed to assure quality services and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in research projects as needed.
  • Responsible for interviewing, selecting, motivating and developing employees, but has no administrative authority for manpower planning and/or budget functions.
  • Relationship with persons served are highly complex and of a special nature requiring continuous in-depth active treatment to resolve their total needs; work requires knowledge of up-to-date techniques of treatment; must have thorough knowledge of DD therapies or medical knowledge. Responsible for assessing those who provide direct treatment and ensure services are provided.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy from an AMA approved school. (Advanced education preferred)

Maintains a valid license or permit for practicing respiratory therapy. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by NBRC.

 Current Ohio state license of active status and without disciplinary action

 Maintains current BCLS certification.

Minimum of three (3) years management experience of large respiratory therapy staff in a clinical setting, experience with care of people with complex medical needs and experience with mechanical ventilation is required.

Minimum five (5) years critical care/ventilator management experience including PICU, NICU, pediatric transport.
