Job Description

Her Campus Media is hiring an Associate Product Manager (APM) to help build and grow our many platforms, including our flagship website HerCampus.com, our e-commerce store the Her Campus Shop, our various program/product websites, as well as oversee the development of new products and tools. You will act as first mate to our Co-founder/Chief Product Officer in expanding the footprint of the iconic Her Campus brand, with a concentration on making our digital platforms seamless, delightful experiences for our readers, contributors, clients, and internal teams. Our Associate Product Manager should have the confidence to oversee the entire product management lifecycle from conception to launch, and should enjoy implementing best practices and setting the tone for our currently small and scrappy product department. As such, it is critical that our APM especially exhibit one of our company core values: entrepreneurial. We see vast potential across the wide range of things we are building here at Her Campus Media, and will be entrusting our APM to deeply understand, think strategically about, and ultimately grow and improve some of our most important platforms.

The Associate Product Manager will report directly to our Co-founder/Chief Product Officer and collaborate broadly across the company with every team, especially engineering, production and operations, marketing, and editorial, and will be based out of our Boston, MA headquarters. Responsibilities include:
  • Research, scope, prioritize, QA, and help implement new features and improvements for our websites, including HerCampus.com, HerCampusMedia.com, CollegeFashionWeek.com, HerConference.com, HerCampusTour.com, and 22Under22.HerCampus.com.

  • Help manage in-house and/or contracted engineering teams to ensure efforts and resources are being utilized efficiently to achieve engineering goals on time, participating in weekly scrums and regular prioritization exercises.

  • Manage initiatives associated with our e-commerce store, the Her Campus Shop, helping determine product, marketing, and operations strategy

  • Liaise with other internal departments, especially B2B and B2C marketing teams, coordinating engineering and production efforts when launching and executing company campaigns and initiatives

  • Research and vet new technologies, tools, processes and/or vendors for company-wide adoption as needed

  • Supervise and mentor other members of the product team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in technical field, product management, or business

  • A minimum 2-3 years of product management experience

  • Ideally, experience with any of the following: digital media, content management systems, open source software, e-commerce

  • Understanding of the digital media landscape: trends, products, and other players

  • Innate sense of the smart and right way to build something

  • Understanding of/belief in lean and agile methodologies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to write technical documentation and communicate with technical team members

  • Highly productive, efficient, entrepreneurially minded problem solver

  • Genuine appreciation of and excitement about working in a start-up environment
