Job Description

We are looking for a NYC- or Boston-based strategic content leader with their finger on the pulse of Gen Z to join our team fulltime working across our portfolio of media brands - Her Campus, Spoon University, and College Fashionista - serving as a member of our leadership team and reporting directly to the co-founder/CEO/Editor-in-Chief. In this role, you will be responsible for all things content, overseeing editorial, social, branded, and email (and any other manifestations of our content) across our brands, with a focus on driving growth, engagement, and fresh and innovative ideas that build our brands’ reputation with our audiences and in the marketplace. We are looking for someone creative with a superior editorial skillset who also brings a strategic, analytical, business-minded, forward-thinking approach to their work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Senior-level, holistic oversight and development of content strategy across platforms for Her Campus, Spoon University, and College Fashionista
  • Oversee content and strategy across sites, social media platforms, email newsletters, and branded content
  • Drive significant growth, and prioritize engagement, across traffic, social, and email, via a data-driven approach
  • Generate fresh, creative ideas for initiatives and special projects across our properties, and work with team to execute on them
  • Develop new sell-able content opportunities for brands, in partnership with business development and integrated marketing teams  
  • Directly manage Social Media Manager, Branded Content Manager, and Site Managing Editors
  • Ideate on, help bring to life, and help execute on any new platforms or other manifestations of our content that may arise such as books, podcasts, etc.
  • Serve as a member of company’s leadership team, working collaboratively with all departments to drive growth and success for the business through your area of expertise

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years of full-time editorial/social media experience, preferably in women's/Gen Z digital media
  • 3+ years management experience, ideally with experience managing a team
  • Intimate understanding of and passion around serving the Gen Z audience
  • Strong background in both editorial and social media
  • Strong analytical skillset and comfort with making data-driven decisions
  • Proven record of achieving and surpassing traffic/social growth goals
  • Interest and ability to work collaboratively with other departments such as sales & marketing, product & engineering, events, community, and design
  • Superb writing and editing skills
  • Rigorous attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational, managerial, and project management skills
  • Thorough command of traffic and social analytics and related tools
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Command of e-commerce affiliate content best practices
  • Quick and efficient worker with ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to function autonomously and complete projects and tasks without close management and supervision
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter with go-getter attitude, positive and upbeat nature, and excellent work ethic who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty and is excited about working in a start-up environment

Interview Process & Expectations

We intend to move quickly but thoughtfully to make a hire. You can expect interviews with the co-founder/CEO/Editor-in-Chief, current members of the edit/social team, other leadership team members, and a final round interview with the Her Campus Media co-founders. You will also be asked to submit a work product test to demonstrate your skill set and help us to understand your vision for yourself in the role.
