Editor - Huckberry Journal

  • Full-time

Company Description

Huckberry is an independent online retailer and magazine for those who love adventure. We're a team of 80ish based in San Francisco, California with offices in Columbus, Ohio.

Over a million and a half young, active professionals trust us as their leading resource for emerging brands, gear, and lifestyle inspiration.

We're independent (read our story here: Bit.ly/TheHuckberryStory), and have been called "the future of eCommerce for guys." We look forward to meeting you.

Job Description

We're looking for an Editor to join the Huckberry team and help us take our Journal to the next level. We've underinvested in our Journal for way too long, and we believe there's huge upside there given our reach and creative network.

At first, you’ll be our only teammate dedicated exclusively to the Huckberry Journal, so we'll need you to bring an entrepreneurial spirit to this position.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Working with our Brands, Growth, Social, and Creative teams to generate ideas for the Journal
  • Assigning stories to our Ambassador and freelancer network (write creative briefs, negotiate pay, manage deadlines)
  • Editing stories from our Ambassador and freelancer network
  • Sourcing photos and illustrations for stories you're editing
  • Expanding our Ambassador and freelancer network
  • Writing 2-3 Journal posts a week
  • Supporting our Catalog team on the ideation and execution of editorial content

The type of projects you might find yourself leading or supporting include:

We're looking for someone with the following character, background, and interests:

  • Great attitude, high energy, and a hustler
  • Strong interest in 1) men's apparel and gear, 2) travel, and 3) adventure
  • Strong editor and writer
  • Strong project manager
  • Experience working with creative teams and freelancers (aka herding cats)
  • Well-versed in SEO best practices

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is sharp, creative, a hustler, and is extremely organized and detail-oriented.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience producing digitally native A+ content
  • Expert in editing, grammar and proofreading techniques
