Full Stack Rails Developer

  • Full-time

Company Description

Huckberry is an independent online retailer and magazine for adventurous guys. We're a team of 50ish and based in San Francisco's Design District.

Almost a million young, active professionals trust us as their leading resource for emerging brands, gear, and lifestyle inspiration.

We're bootstrapped, profitable and proud (http://bit.ly/1N81FZ8), were recently named one of Men's Journal's Best Menswear Shops (http://mjm.ag/1lCgU12), and have been called "the future of eCommerce for guys." We look forward to meeting you.

Job Description

We are looking for a Rails Developer with strong Ruby and HTML/CSS/JS experience to work on our growing eCommerce application. You should be comfortable working on Rails applications deployed to Heroku, writing test, running tests, writing object oriented programs, using the browser’s inspector, and turning designs into HTML & CSS. We expect you to be able to both develop features to meet specifications and to develop specifications for features based on business needs.

You’ll be working on improving and maintaining a website that gets more than 7 million monthly pageviews. We’re a fun, young company looking to create the most inspiring, creative, and profitable company in eCommerce. You should be ambitious, creative, curious, and hard-working. In this position you’ll be asked not only to deliver strong code, but to communicate frequently and efficiently.

Qualifications

We’re looking for an individual with strong experience in:

  • Ruby
  • Rails 4
  • Object Oriented Design
  • SCSS
  • JavaScript
  • ReactJS
  • Slim

It would be a bonus if you have prior experience with:

  • RSpec
  • Spree
  • AngularJS

We’d be thrilled to hear:

  • You’ve read every book Avdi Grimm has published.
  • You really took “Practical Object Oriented Programming in Ruby” to heart.
  • You’ve contributed to major open source Ruby projects such as Rails, Resque, Spree, or many others.
  • You keep a caniuse.com and MDN tab permanently open.

You should be able to work with git, GitHub, and be able to collaborate with a small team of developers. We use Pivotal Tracker and email for team organization and task prioritization.

We are currently hiring for two positions: (1) full-time position, and (1) part-time position that will hopefully quickly develop quickly into a full-time position — in the meantime, you’ll be expected to work between 10-30 hours a week, depending on need and the tasks you’re working on that week.

Additional Information

When applying, please include the following:

  • Your availability, including when you can start and how many hours you can devote per week.
  • Examples of Ruby, Slim, SCSS and JavaScript you’ve written.
  • A link your GitHub profile, if you have one.
  • A link to your LinkedIn profile.
  • Bonus: Links to any websites you’ve developed in production, and links to source code for any Rails projects you’ve developed.
