Senior Program Manager, Data Governance & Modernization

  • Data Governance & Data Modernization programs are strategic end-to-end transformational programs that are changing the way we govern and manage data across all business units.
  • As Senior Program Manager Data Governance & Modernization, you will be part of the Data Governance & Modernization Office (DGMO) and report to the Director of Data Governance.
  • You will drive and be accountable for all program management aspects and activities of these two programs and DGMO.
  • You will maintain and closely work with a large network of key stakeholders across the company:  Data Governance Board members, Business Unit Data Stewards, Group Product Managers, Risk and Data Management professionals. 
  • In that process, you will lead the team of program, project and change management professionals, all working toward the same goal of making data transformation a success. 


General Role Description

The Senior Program Manager is responsible for the governance and active program and / or portfolio management of highly complex programs linked to our company and department strategy & objectives. First and foremost, the Senior Program Managers ensure the roadmaps/plans focus on agreed business priorities, dependencies and strategies – designed based on data and business needs, and deliver against the shared objectives  and main activities with key milestones that have been agreed upon. To this end, the Senior Program Managers support business case creation, drive key requirements gathering from business & stakeholders, scope work, institutionalize governance, planning and cadence for the portfolio or program(s). The Senior Program Managers lead by example in ensuring the portfolio or program(s) are proactively lead and managed in a consistent quality manner, whilst working with business units & functions to ensure timely decisions and mitigations are in place to support the company and department objectives. In this role, the Senior Program Manager is be exposed to very Senior Stakeholders (eg. Leadership team) and working closely with their teams. 

The Senior Program Managers are  also actively contributing to establish and maintain the program management craft within Depending on the scope: The Senior Program Manager may lead a team of program- and project managers who are responsible for the several streams of work within the Department.


  1. Responsible
  • Lead (a portfolio of) highly complex strategic or critical programs (e.g.  complex change / transformational /M&A  initiatives within the function and organisation). 
  • Lead by example on Project & Program management craft best practices and behaviours. Provide thought leadership, advice & support on Program Management including setting high quality standards both within the department as well as influence outside.
  • Responsible to manage every phase of very complex company wide & beyond company (portfolio of) programs, specifically:
    • Drive vision for (portfolio of) programs towards clear business objectives, scope, requirements & success criteria, including the identification of opportunities to improve the impact & experience for our customers and partners, translating into business cases and getting buy-in from leadership
    • Create clear planning documents together with involved departments
    • Proactive identification and management of relevant dependencies (both within as well as cross departments and 3rd parties) in order to minimize risks and challenges.
    • Regular tracking and reporting status and progress of all streams of work, highlighting where required, risk/issues to governance groups or team members
    • Enable teams & leaders to make quality decisions and support  in prioritization exercises
    • Define, execute and maintain internal and external governance, with objective of creating transparency and facilitate decision making through clear processes and accountability
    • Work in partnership with business units and functions leadership to ensure resources are allocated to the right work, within headcount and P&L budget
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the business to identify & build action plans to improve the impact & experience for our customers, our business and our people (creating win-win). Productively interact and manage senior stakeholders (SVP level). 
  • Drive change where needed:
    • Exemplary role in change management best practices, including “embracing change/ growth” mindset. Encourages people to become change agents & embrace change
    • Explicitly communicate: why change, what will change, how, when, where and whom it impacts (with possible outcomes and costs). Adjust communication style to the audience to help them understand and accept the change
  • Lead a team of (senior) project / program managers in a successful way
  • Lead (change) transformations, integrations or mergers & acquisitions from a program management perspective
  • Lead the budget and planning cycle - including prioritization exercise -  in collaboration with functional leaders within and outside department


  • Level of Education : Bachelor Degree
  • Years of relevant experience : 12+  years
  • 8+ years of experience in project management,  with a range of different methodologies and techniques.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to influence and steer leadership and senior management. Ability to influence VP level and productively interact with SVP level
  • Proven track record in change management in large organizations
  • Lead independently multiple high complexity programs (end-2-end)
  • Have a solid business understanding. Independently use quantitative and qualitative data to drive decision making and lead by example
