Booking.com continues to develop new products (i.e. adding other travel related products on our platform) ánd global tax regulations continue to change.  That’s why we are looking for additional expertise to grow our Tax team. The main goal of the Tax function is to protect the company and its people, by making sure we all comply with the tax regulations without losing eye on business needs. 

The Senior Employment Tax Manager helps to drive the tax strategy aligned to Booking.com’s finance and business objectives. The Senior Employment Tax Manager is responsible for setting the strategic direction and having the overall end to end responsibility of complex Employment tax matters that may span across multiple departments, domains and/or geographies. 

It is important in this role to try to fully understand the business, networking and close collaboration with senior stakeholders in Booking.com and Booking Holdings is key.

As a Senior Employment Tax Manager you will work for Booking.com in Amsterdam (Booking.com’s headquarters), where our entire tax department sits. You will report directly to Director of the tax department currently consists of 35 persons, responsible for various disciplines (CIT, TP, VAT, Tax accounting and other experts). The tax department is part of Booking.com’s international Finance team (approx. 800 professionals, mostly based in Amsterdam).

The role involves close interaction with our entire tax team, our parent company (Booking Holdings Group based in Norwalk, Connecticut), our international offices, business managers, functional teams and other finance colleagues. Therefore it is essential that you have excellent management and communication skills in English.

Due to the rapid changes in the organization, the tasks and duties of this role may evolve over time. You will be keen to develop and grow within the role and to take on additional challenges and responsibilities as they occur. 

B. Responsible

  • Manage employment tax matters (e.g local wage taxes, socials security premiums) globally
  • Determine strategy for global employment tax compliance across the business
  • Include, maintain and improve employment tax aspects in the tax control framework
  • Ensuring global employment tax compliance in relation to new compensation, benefit and mobility policies
  • Conducting reviews of employment tax legislative changes impacting HR policies and business operations, incl. establishing employment tax risk assessment and conducting horizon scan in liaison of various HR teams
  • Efficiently work with senior stakeholders up to SVP level in the organization, with our parent company (Booking Holdings Inc), our international offices, business managers, functional teams and other HR and finance colleagues
  • Advise and guide senior leadership in key decision making from an employment tax point of view
  • Partner with HR and Payroll teams to advise them on various complex employment tax matters, act upon issues identified that require further assessment and process improvements
  • Manage relationships with government authorities, incl Dutch and foreign tax authorities on employment tax matters
  • Coordination of employment tax audits with support of external tax advisers
  • Maintain relationship with and be responsible for the delivery of the external tax advisors on employment tax advice
  • Contribute to tax awareness and appreciation within the group
  • Support the business in ad hoc tax issues
  • Own the professional development of the Tax Managers, actively upskilling them to deal with an increasingly complex environment

B.Experienced

  • Master degree (in Tax Economics/Law or similar degree)
  • Working experience of 8 - 12 years within a big 4 and/or international environment in employment tax.
  • Combination of experience with tax compliance/accounting is preferred;
  • Excellent knowledge of International tax regulations.
  • Local candidates or those who have experience with Dutch employment tax are highly preferred.
