IDEO.org focuses specifically on challenges related to poverty and seeks to improve the lives of people in low-income communities across the globe through innovation solutions and the spread of human-centered design through the social sector. IDEO.org works directly with non-profits and social enterprises on projects using the human-centered design process across a wide range of focus areas related to poverty alleviation, including health, agriculture, financial services, gender equity, water and sanitation and community building. IDEO.org is committed to sharing and spreading the human-centered design approach and the emerging ideas related
to the challenges of poverty by harnessing networks like HCD Connect.org and building a fellowship program for future innovators in the social sector.

Job Description

Work to improve the lives of low-income communities across the globe by arriving at innovative solutions with human-centered design. The Communications Designer will work with Global Fellows and our design team to create opportunities for nonprofits, social enterprises, and foundations on an array of topics, like agriculture, water and sanitation, health, financial inclusion, unemployment, and more. This role is for a true craftsperson who is ready to drive IDEO.org’s identity and collaborate in small multidisciplinary teams to work, learn, and innovate to make the world a better place. Qualifications

  • You routinely work on projects that spread across print, packaging and brand identity to interactive projects for screens, devices and spaces.
  • You and your work are at their best in a participatory, team-based environment and you’re excited about being a part of a fast-paced nonprofit.
  • You know the difference between “good” and “great” and are able to work within dynamics that challenge teams, clients and timelines to deliver excellent design. 
  • You’re comfortable participating in client meetings and expressing your creative voice in a business setting. 
  • You know how to play nice with people who aren’t rooted in graphic design and excel at engaging colleagues and clients respectfully.
  • You have a desire to experiment with your work and our deliverables, push boundaries, and explore new territory.
  • You love putting meaning behind your work and you’re willing to make things happen within tight constraints, tight timelines, and tight budgets.
  • You inspire teams through collaboration as well as direction, vision, and planning of all aspects of visual deliverables.
  • You’re comfortable prototyping at different levels of fidelity within the context of solving big design challenges at every stage of the design process.

Experience:

  • Graphic Design tools across a variety of media (print, motion, web), InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and AfterEffects (Bonus points for Director and video editing experience). 
  • Education: BA in Graphic Design, New Media, or professional equivalent. 
  • English fluency (written and spoken). 
  • Ability to work in San Francisco.
