Job Description

We are seeking an Interaction Designer to join our New York City studio. This role will focus on turning human-centered research insights into interaction design concepts through sketching, prototyping, building, and/or front-end development. As part of a multi-disciplinary design team, you’ll tackle complex, poverty-related challenges alongside other builders and thinkers from different backgrounds. Your portfolio doesn’t need to have a depth of experience working in emerging markets, but you need to be passionate about designing and visualizing new and innovative solutions that are rooted in deep human centered insights.

Qualifications

You are:

  • You are great at turning human behavior and needs into real concepts.
  • You are actively and demonstrably interested in problems and conversations around poverty, impact, development, and emerging markets.
  • You are obsessed with what design and technology could do for people.
  • You’re a systems thinker: you can logically visualize complex systems, user interaction flows and beautiful user interface.
  • You are passionate about building, prototyping, and continually evolving experiences throughout the product life cycle.
  • You can articulate the value of design through verbal and visual presentation.
  • You love collaborating with others and also excel at working independently.
  • You have the ability to learn new tools and do self-guided work within a fast-paced environment.
  • You’re a designer at your core, and you see bringing products to market as an important part of your design passion.

You have:

  • Strong visual and interaction design work with the ability to think beyond screen UI.
  • Ability to convey concepts through wireframes, flows, storyboards, and mockups.
  • Fluency in digital design tools and understanding the value of analog tools.
  • Fluency in creating quick and dirty prototypes (for example: click-throughs with Keynote, interactive prototypes with Flinto or Axure, animations with AfterEffects, etc.)
  • Familiarity with coding and/or understanding of architecture for web and mobile experiences
  • (JavaScript/CSS/HTML, Objective-C, etc.)
  • Experience engaging and collaborating with third-party developers, stewarding the transfer of design to implementation.
  • BONUS: Experience working in emerging markets is highly valued.

You need:

  • To be able to distinguish between “good” and “great” work and be able to articulate the difference.
  • Experience prototyping and experimenting at different levels of fidelity.
  • To be able to provide valuable insights and points of view at the intersection of social innovation, business and interaction design.
  • Cross-cultural design experience.
  • 5+ years of work experience.
  • To be able to travel internationally and domestically ~40% of the time.
