Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join the IDEO.org team in San Francisco. This person will work closely with the Finance Lead to ensure timely GL closings, compliance with GAAP and internal fiscal policies, and will help develop and implement effective and efficient financial processes to support the greater organization. A great candidate has 5-7 years of accounting experience in a nonprofit setting, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to work independently as well as in a cross-functional team. This person will report directly to the Finance Lead.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the month-end close process including account analysis, preparing ad-hoc reports, reconciling data, and performing analytical activities to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Oversee interim and annual audits Support the Finance Lead with Federal and State reporting requirements
  • Oversee the A/R and A/P process
  • Oversee the grant reporting process to program/project funders
  • Support the Finance Lead with Expense Management System implementation
  • Oversee the expense reporting process after system implementation
  • Oversee the semi-monthly payroll process
  • Oversee compliance with fiscal policies
  • Contribute to related special projects and other duties as needed


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (Master’s or CPA preferred)
  • 5-7 years of accounting/finance experience in a nonprofit setting
  • Creative problem solver with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a small and rapidly growing organization
  • Flexible and able to drive a concept further with minimal guidance
  • Experience with Quickbooks, Microsoft Office, and Salesforce preferred
  • Familiarity with Human-Centered Design a big plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
