Partnerships & Operations Specialist

Company Description

IDEO.org is out to design an end to poverty by bringing creativity, empathy, and innovation to the social sector. Our goal is to improve the lives of people in poor and vulnerable communities through design and we’re doing it in three ways: through the products, services, and experiences that we design; through the problem solvers we fuel; and by inspiring the social sector to adopt human-centered design.

Job Description

The Role:

IDEO.org is seeking a Partnerships & Operations Specialist to join our Health XO (HXO) team in San Francisco. As part of a dynamic and multi-faceted team, you’ll work to support and nurture funding relationships with a range of supporters including large-scale foundations, small grant making organizations, and in some cases, individual donors. You’ll help steward some of our largest partnerships to date, including engagements that span multiple years and countries, and have stakeholders from the funding, design, implementation and evaluation communities. You’ll get your hands dirty, learn a lot, keep everyone organized, and we will be deeply engaged in the work the HXO team is doing to improve the lives of girls around the world.

As a successful candidate, you are organized and inspired. You’re a go-getter with 1-3 years of experience working in grants management, project management, or a related field. You’re interested in human centered design, are building a career in the social sector, and are willing to roll up your sleeves and get things done. You’re a quick learner, and thrive in a self-directed environment. You’re enthusiastic, detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about IDEO.org’s mission to design an end to global poverty.

You will:

You will engage with the HXO team to support our project work across multiple partners and geographies. You’ll help secure funding for future work, and will keep everyone on track as we move into an exciting phase of growth and development. Specifically, you’ll contribute in the following areas:

New Partnership Development:

  • Research and build relationships with foundations, fellowships, and other funders that are interested in supporting HXO’s work
  • Build out and maintain a database of relevant funding opportunities
  • Prepare proposals for prospective funders for the HXO Program
  • Maintain a calendar of upcoming proposals, and ensure the team meets critical deadlines for grants, awards and contests

Grants Management

  • Work with our finance and project teams to manage new and existing grants, including interim and final reporting on project outcomes
  • Own reporting for existing grants
  • Help forge new partner relationships

Operations Management:

  • Make sure the trains run on time: organize meetings, help coordinate complex travel, and help things run smoothly on the HXO team
  • Manage funder-required documentation for projects, including keep detailed records of expenses, progress and interim reporting
  • Streamline and maintain IDEO.org’s suite of tools that contribute to the effective management of relationships and the Partnerships function at IDEO.org
  • Support program teams to ensure IDEO.org is always effectively meeting the needs of partners and funders

Qualifications

You are:

  • A self-starter with a bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of work experience, preferably in grants management, business development, program operations or a related field
  • Collaborative to the core—you’re comfortable building relationships within and outside of the organization, and have experience working with diverse teams
  • A great writer, capable of producing clear and engaging communications for a variety of audiences
  • Passionate about public and reproductive health, and have worked in the sector
  • Familiar with, or comfortable using, Salesforce, Excel, and Adobe InDesign
  • A time management guru with an eye for prioritization
  • Passionate about global poverty alleviation, and excited about the role that that human-centered design can play in creating new solutions
