Idahoan Foods is hiring a Journeyman Electrician. The main responsibilities of this position include:

Job Description

The primary responsibility  is to work as Journeyman Electrician with additional maintenance duties pertaining to the install, troubleshoot and repair equipment and  troubleshoot and repair of industrial phase electrical wiring systems and instrumentation involving work of a varied nature, with little supervision. This position is considered Journeyman Electrician, and the qualified candidate should be able to do any job in the maintenance or electrical field with great skill.  This position will function as the lead for less experienced personnel in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.

Journeyman Electrician:

  1. Installs electrical wiring and instrumentation systems to support processing equipment. Uses time efficiently while assigned to multiple projects.
  2. When assigned, will work with outside electrical contractors working onsite to ensure and inspect work quality. In addition, will work with outside vendors to specify new equipment requirements.
  3. Troubleshoots diagnoses and corrects electrical problems in the power distribution, electrical equipment, instrumentation systems and lighting systems.
  4. Teach electrical fundamentals to new maintenance mechanics and Apprentice Electricians.
  5. Installs, removes, repairs, overhauls and tests electrical equipment, both alternating and direct current.
  6. Performs installation, removal and repair of a wide range of electrical equipment, such as power circuits, lighting systems, switchgear, transformers, starters, controllers, capacitors, production equipment power and control systems, electronic power and control and communication equipment.
  7. Diagnoses equipment failures and make necessary repairs while minimizing production down time.  Demonstrates the ability to start flake drum from a cold start. 
  8. Operates production and packaging equipment to check work as required.
  9. Performs mechanical work on electrical equipment.
  10. Works to meet current electrical codes and company policies and practices. Selects proper equipment size, wire and conduit sizes, breaker switch and fuse sizes from appropriate catalogs.
  11. Reads electrical and related blueprints and schematics.  Demonstrates the ability to work from drawings, verbal instructions or sketches. 
  12. Directs work and instructs other electricians, helpers and apprentices. 
  13. Performs necessary mathematics to determine proper components and installation requirements.
  14. Completes routine paperwork as required, follows lockout/tag out safety procedures, utilizes confined space permits. Utilizes proper rigging techniques.
  15. Must comply with all safety regulations, attend safety meetings and follow all plant and safety rules.  Follows all good manufacturing practices as set up by the company policy.
  16. Completes other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager and/or Lead.
  17. Takes charge in the absence of the Maintenance Manager and/or Lead.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • This position requires two years of trade school and/or five years experience in maintenance.
  • Possess skills to use all necessary tools both manual and power.
  • Must be able to read mechanical, electrical and related blueprints as well as work from drawings, verbal instructions or sketches.
  • If a Journeyman Electrician must successfully passed the Idaho State Journeyman Electricians exam and have a current Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Completes forklift training.

Language Skills:

  • Must have the ability to prepare, format, proofread and edit documents which are concise and professional. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, telephone skills, and thorough knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 

Math Skills:

  • This position requires quantitative skills and knowledge of math functions such as percentages, decimals, and the ability to chart numerical data appropriately. Works from drawings, verbal instructions or sketches, uses shop math

Reasoning Ability:

  • This position requires a high degree of self-confidence and maturity to make decisions required in day-to-day activities. Must be able to solve problems with minimal direction, be detailed oriented and have strong organizational skills. A team player who is flexible, and accepts changing assignments and accountabilities. Should display excellent interpersonal skills.

Computer Skills:

  • Essential computer skills using Windows applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and E-mail.
  • Also utilize the computerized maintenance management software to generate work orders for issues found on the work floor or get assigned work from Supervisor.

Work Environment:

  • This position requires the ability to perform various physical activities such as heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) standing on concrete floors for extended periods of time, moving parts and loud noise.  Must be able to work with sanitizers and cleaning chemicals. Must be able to work various shifts as assigned by Supervisor.  Cleans job site and tools. Stores tools and equipment in designated places in an orderly manner.  Works on ladders, scaffolds, and forklift cages and in pits using proper safety precautions. Wears personal protective equipment as needed for assigned tasks.  Must be able to work various shifts as assigned by Supervisor.
