Job Description
The Indiana University Foundation invites philanthropic-minded, research-focused applicants for the Development Research Associate position.
Development Research Associates will partner with development units and officers throughout the Indiana University system by identifying and tracking the accomplishments and life events of alumni and donors, as well as their interest and ability to provide support to Indiana University.
The successful Development Research Associate will enjoy a primarily research and data-driven role but will also be a strong collaborator, with the ability to work with development officers and prospect management to fulfill development goals through meetings, database updates, and email as needed. Once assigned to a unit, the role will need strong communication skills to elaborate on the needs of the department, and the organization.
Additionally, the Development Research Associate will have access to several prospecting databases and must be comfortable gathering sensitive donor prospect information.

Candidates must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, Indiana. This role is primarily remote but can be on-site or hybrid if preferred. (quarterly in-person team meetings required).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in library science or a related field
- 4 years of professional work experience
- Familiarity with research databases
- Combinations of relevant work experience and education will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity and experience with donor databases and best practices
- CRM experience, particularly within Blackbaud or similar software
- Familiarity with SaaS platforms
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience and references demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail
- Knowledge of general fundraising best practices
- Interpersonal skills and judgment suitable for exercising appropriate discretion and demeanor when dealing with colleagues, faculty, board members, and members of the public
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
- Interest in a heads-down, research-heavy position
- Strong organizational skills required
- Knowledge of Indiana University and IU Foundation history
- Professional writing skills
- Advanced computer, software, Internet, and database knowledge
