Inmarsat’s Chief Operations Office (COO) plays a vital role managing the services that keep our business running and delivering to our customers. COO consists of 9 functions from Satellite Operations to Customer Service and Service Delivery, Network Operations and Service Assurance to Group IT, One IT, Cyber Security and the Digital office.

Job Description

Background:

Inmarsat has carried out a number of acquisitions over the past 5 years, which has resulted in a complex IT environment with a multitude of applications required to support diverse and in-consistent business processes. In order to address this and better align with business strategy Inmarsat is undertaking a comprehensive transformation of its business processes and systems, known as the OneIT programme.

The transformation of Inmarsat’s order management and provisioning capabilities is a ‘keystone’ element of the OneIt programme known as the Service Delivery Transformation programme. This programme is key in the road toward simplification and rationalisation of our estate.   The objectives of the programme is to provide a step change in order management/provisioning/online capabilities, scalability and agility by the introduction of standardised business processes supported by the development of single, scalable platform providing the commercial agility, customer experience, operational effectiveness and efficiency to enable profitable growth. 

Inmarsat has selected Sigma for product catalogue and Comptel (Nokia) for order management as our strategic platforms.   The programme is a significant investment and as such has board level approval and support.

 

Primary role purpose:

The role will be part of a programme management team responsible for delivering, on time and on budget, all elements of the customer API interfaces within the transformation programme including close working with the business change teams required to realise the full benefits of the investment.

This role will be primarily responsible for the API work stream to manage the technical activities to deliver a robust end to end integrated solution for the programme across multiple sprints to meet business requirements.  The role will work with our business users and technical teams to ensure the external interface with customers is integrated into our internal systems and portals

As part of the wider programme management team the role may be required to support other work packages during the lifetime of the programme.

The role will be responsible to manage the e2e API development and test process across multiple internal IT/business teams/3rd party legacy vendors and work closely with our programme partner, delivery partner ad testing partner.  Coordination of all these teams is a key part of the role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility to ensure timely and on budget delivery of all project deliverables.
  • Develop a project definition, work package breakdown and cost estimation that identifies all the work that will be required to deliver the workstream.
  • Ensure that all Inmarsat and SI teams involved in the project have clearly defined roles, responsibilities and a clear understanding of their deliverables related to the project definition.
  • Develop and maintain a project plan that is integrated with the overall programme plan.
  • Drive collaboration and teamwork within the project team to execute against the plan.
  • Proactively manage risks, issues and change.
  • Be responsible for the overall project financial plan continually monitoring and tracking costs against project budget.
  • Provide accurate and timely status reporting to the overall programme manager.
  •  Work with a development partner integration team to ensure that the solution meets our requirements. 
  • Work with Inmarsat’s Business and Technical teams and directly manage all aspects of Inmarsat’s and customer readiness.
  • As part of the wider programme management team the role may be required to support other work packages during the lifetime of the programme.
  • Co-ordinate daily stand ups for the API team to ensure any blockers are identified and resolved.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid experience working in the IT industry, with strong experience of project management
  • Experience managing projects with components delivered by System Integrators.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with ability to build relationships with technical, business and senior management stakeholders.
  • Results oriented with a proven ability to drive team engagements in an aggressive and time sensitive environment in a geographically dispersed model.
  • Able to work independently and take a logical and orderly approach to analysing problems, organizing work and planning actions.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Project.
  • Jira experience an advantage.
  • Experience of working on with agile programme methodologies.
  • Extensive with large transformation programmes working across multiple teams specifically with system integration. Experience of managing and motivating a team.
  • Management of 3rd party vendors and System Integrators.
  • Experience in managing a diverse onshore & offshore team.
  • Ability to work with the technical teams to understand data issues and articulate them into business understanding.
  • Ability to understand the integration layer and ensure solution is as per business requirement.
  • Knowledge of Apigee an advantage.
