Job Description

Primary Purpose of Role

As part of the Aero Services Delivery team the primary objective of the role is to ensure that all aircraft in-flight communication system incidents are supported at level 2 in a timely manner so that aircraft can be returned to service within schedule.

The team responsibility includes to ensure the end to end systems are monitored and incidents with ground, satellite and airborne equipment are managed in a timely fashion.   

The role will require significant interaction within Inmarsat, the certification services, AERO systems, Support Desk and suppliers to ensure the delivery of the specified in service support. 

This support shall ensure it is in line with the contractual obligations made to customers regarding service availability and end user support. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Heavy emphasis on automation (scripting) of tasks for deployment, analysis, monitoring, and network repair
  • Collaborate with developers
    • Solve operational needs for developers to enable new monitoring tools/logging and resolve in-service issues
    • Participate in sprint planning and code reviews
    • Deploy new and update existing services
  • Remote analysis of ground and aircraft connectivity faults (hardware, software, networking)
  • Second-level incident management and analysis (log reviews, network testing)
  • Outage management and escalations
  • Ensure high network availability
  • Delivery of service support towards airline customers and end users.
  • Performance management of the aircraft and timely intervention.
  • Ensure services and end to end infrastructure is functioning correctly
  • Contribute to proactively improve service systems and support
  • Contribute to create efficient operational and technical processes/procedures
  • Follow the necessary processes / procedures
  • Communicate Network/System status to the relevant key holders
  • Rotating - 24/7 on call

Qualifications

    Essential Knowledge and Skills:

    • 3 years of experience in Network/System Operations support within an enterprise and/or aviation environment In-depth understanding of, and hands-on experience with:
    • Scripting language (Python, Ansible, Bash or other) and task/log-file analysis/network monitoring automation
    • Network protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, routing, etc.)
    • Network architecture (routers, switches, firewall, etc.)
    • Demonstrated experience in administration and configuration of Linux Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Excellent PC skills with knowledge of MS Windows, MS Office, Database programs and Web based systems. 

     

    Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in a related field (i.e. Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) from a recognized post-secondary institution
    • Java/PERL coding knowledge
    • Cisco CCNA or higher certification
    • Aviation Industry Experience (IFE, IFC and/or Avionics)
    • Advanced Linux knowledge / background
    • VMWare administration and architecture
    • GX and/or VSAT experience
    • Working experience on Cisco routers, switches and firewalls
    • Database administration (Postgres or SQL)
    • Experience with Inmarsat systems/services
    • Experience with mobile network (4G, 5G, LTE) and user terminals
    • BSc/BEng in a relevant technical degree (Computer Science)
    • ITIL Certification
    • Service Now administration experience
