Job Description

Primary role purpose:

This position sits within the Aviation team – one of the fast growing areas of the business. The Aviation BU must execute a market development strategy to position Inmarsat for both short and long term growth in the market sector.  Over the next few years, Inmarsat will continue to deploy network infrastructure and terminal strategies to respond to in-flight connectivity, cockpit and safety service requirements within business and general aviation.

The Market Development Manager will play a critical role in a small, specialized team, dedicated to developing Inmarsat’s position in the aviation market and establishing Inmarsat as the dominant market provider for business aviation connectivity solutions.

The remit of the Market Development Manager will be to lead Inmarsat’s penetration of the Business Aviation Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) entities to drive growth through securing up future revenues. The successful appointee will use his/her experience and contacts within the aviation industry to influence key decision makers within the global OEM & MRO market sector to ensure the choice of communications equipment on future aircraft is compatible with and leads to adoption of Inmarsat services. The individual will be a subject matter expert regarding the various OEMs and MROs and their requirements, expected to advice on latent areas of growth for Inmarsat in the OEM and MRO market with proven ability to lead fruitful business campaigns in this sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scope the potential of the OEMs and MROs for future adoption of Inmarsat services and compatible hardware
  • Build influential relationships with key decision markets at the major airlines/OEMs
  • Roadmap and implement the business plan for gaining traction and sustaining revenue across the OEMs and MROs individually
  • Develop and present business cases to the wider aviation team and C-level decision makers within Inmarsat
  • Work through a network of service and hardware partners to grow business in the OEM market, supporting their marketing efforts and directing decisions on their commercial activities where appropriate

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree within a relevant field (i.e. engineering, aviation, business, etc.) supplemented by comprehensive understanding, and experience of the Aviation OEM & MRO industry. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Proven ability to create sustainable revenue growth – through both B2B and direct routes to market
  • Prior success in forging influential and profitable relationships within the Aviation industry
  • Previous experience road-mapping short and long term business plans and leading others in the implementation of those
  • Engaging and articulate communicator
  • Consistent progressive career in the Business Aviation sector

 Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with Inmarsat and non-Inmarsat communications solutions within the Business Aviation sector
  • Experience at OEM or MRO
  • Experience with business aviation corporate fleet departments, management companies or charter operators
