Job Description

Primary role purpose:

This is a key, external-facing, position within the Aviation Business Unit (ABU) Market Capture  team, the remit to ensure Inmarsat’s customers, partners and prospects have access to technical support, resources and expertise and to support revenue growth and business development initiatives at the Inmarsat, partner and customer level.

The Technical Sales manager will support the Regional Market Capture teams, Aviation Operational Services (AOS), Channel team and Inmarsat Value Added Resellers (VAR’s) and Distribution Partners (DP’s), for Aviation in order to achieve overall revenue performance and growth for Inmarsat’s Aviation Portfolio. This will include developing and delivering in-depth technical sales presentations for customer facing meetings and remote distribution in support of the ABU’s sales and business development activities.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support of the ABU’s commercial targets for GX, EAN and L band aviation users. Influence the early stages of Aviation customer Request For Proposal (RFPs)/ Request For Information (RFIs) to qualify the prospect and to shape Inmarsat’s offering.
  • Serve as a key technical authority within the extended Aviation team; take responsibility for communicating the technical capabilities of the Inmarsat networks, services and products to prospective customers and assist in the capture of market requirements.
  • Respond to RFPs in writing and in person; provide cogent, technically credible and commercially persuasive responses to prospective customer questions.
  • Employ extensive aviation technical knowledge and analytical skills to address customer questions around capability, system performance, network integration etc.
  • Build a network of relevant technical contacts and decision makers across the cabin and cockpit connectivity/IFE and/or the airline and business jet operations communities.
  • Interface with key end-users and Value Added Resellers (VARs)/Distribution Partners (DPs) to educate them about the key aspects of Inmarsat products and services.
  • Author or collaborate in the development of white papers and other external facing messages intended to highlight the advantages and benefits of Inmarsat services with respect to the competition.
  • Become the subject matter expert for one or more areas of Inmarsat product or infrastructure technology critical to the Aviation Business Unit (ABU); keep current in this technology and act as though leader driving its development roadmap.  Interface with third level technical support team for these technologies.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in a relevant field (satellite communications/ telecommunications/ aeronautical engineering). Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. 
  • Experience in a technical sales/ Airline or OEM product development position within the satellite/aviation connectivity or aviation industry.
  • Experience providing robust technical advice and solutions to customers in the commercial or business aviation community.
  • Experience and knowledge of Internet Protocol (IP) networks and networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of modern avionics systems with an emphasis on SATCOM and cabin IFE systems.
  • Clear and concise communication and presentation skills; ability to articulate technical material to both a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Commercially astute; proven ability to influence customer interactions and requirements in line with wider divisional/corporate goals.
  • Team player who is able to work with diverse cultures.
  • Available and willing to travel internationally.

 Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Existing network of contacts in the In-Flight Entertainment (IFE), In-Flight Communications (IFC), cabin wireless communications as well as the commercial and business aviation spaces.
  • Knowledge of aviation electronic standards, interfaces, certification and verification procedures.
  • Experience with aviation SATCOM, air-to-ground, or cabin wireless systems installation or operation on board aircraft.
  • Detailed knowledge of airline operations and operational procedures, systems and methods.
