  • Marketing delivery and analysis
  • Demand-driven product strategy

Founded in 2014, Inquiri is rapidly establishing itself as the best early-stage design and product consulting firm in Pittsburgh. We’re currently a team of five, and look forward to adding the very best creative, versatile, and energetic talent in the market.

Job Description

We have a design component to every project we work on. As our visual designer, you will participate in all of them. You could spend one day building a website layout, the next on a brand specification, and the third working on product with our development team. That means you need to feel comfortable managing your own schedule, juggling competing priorities, and managing client expectations.

We’re a small team, which means that everyone does a little bit of everything. We're all T-shaped. We like it that way, and hope you will, too. That does mean, however, that you cannot stay heads down in Illustrator all the time. We will look to you for input on strategy, UI/UX, development, and language. We’ll expect you to have a voice in client meetings, as well.

We love new stuff—design and otherwise—and it's part of our job as a digital agency to stay abreast of the bleeding edge. However, it’s also part of our job to make responsible recommendations for our clients. As our visual designer, we will trust you to understand the difference between what’s newest, and what’s best for the situation.

Qualifications

Your background and credentials include:

  • Examples of design materials that show your ability to communicate directly with the customer and enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Evidence that you have an understanding of the basics of UI/UX design.
  • Examples of how you creatively solved issues identified through user feedback, discovery or client requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the design, print production and digital processes.
  • Minimum educational level: BA in graphic design or related area.
  • Minimum experience: 1-3 years experience working in advertising or design studio environment.

Know these like the back of your hand:

  • The underlying principles of effective UI/UX, and how best to implement them
  • Archetype and scenario development. You’re always designing for someone, and it’s vital that you understand their needs, wants, and pain before you even start sketching.
  • The tenets of effective branding, and the technical skill to execute a polished, professional spec
  • The basics of user interviews and research
  • The Adobe Creative Suite—especially Illustrator—as well as prototyping tools like Invision, UXPin, Balasmiq, etc.
  • Ability to pre-flight files for print

Be able to hold a conversation about:

  • Working from production schedules and ongoing status to manage your time and prioritize daily workload.
  • Experience working with design frameworks like Materials, Bootstrap, and Foundation—and the insight to know when they aren’t the best tool for the job.
  • The distinction between the business problem and the creative solution and how to drive to the most appropriate blend for each deliverable in a timely manner.
  • Your current workflow, and what people/blogs/podcasts etc. you look to when you want to improve it.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and/or CMS platforms like WordPress or Squarespace.
  • The willingness to write first-draft content, and otherwise agree that Lorem Ipsum is of dubious value.
