Human Resources Generalist

 

Position Description

The Human Resources Generalist repots to the Director of Human Resources and is responsible for talent management including recruitment.  Assist with policy administration and development.  Provide organization overall Human Resources support including guiding supervisors and managers in managing employee relations situations and serving as an objective sounding board for staff and management.  Partner on all Human Resources topics to serve organization as a generalist. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Talent management including recruitment and selection
  • Coordinate all recruitment and staffing activities, including internal promotions, adding new staff, temporary staffing needs, or seasonal staff, and ensuring “fit”
  • Assist in the development of job descriptions
  • Develop and implement recruitment plans including advertising, and postings that utilize the latest recruitment approaches including social media, and other methods of recruitment
  • Source candidates, both active and passive using online databases, contact lists, employee referrals and  via networking, cold calling, and internet research
  • Analyze recruiting and sourcing strategies and adjust approach as necessary to fill talent needs
  • Develop a pool of qualified candidates in advance of needs, build networks and recommend new sources of active and passive candidate recruiting
  • Train hiring managers and supervisors on interviewing and making best selection
  • Assist with  succession planning, target setting, and performance management.
  • Managing onboarding process, ensure employees experience a welcoming start and are effective right away
  • Assist supervisors and managers with employee relations
  • Serve as a resource for employees who have work-related concerns;
  • Managing unemployment claims/processes;
  • Assist with Benefits Administration and Performance Evaluation Process
  • Assist with LOA administration including FMLA, WC and others
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws
  • Assist with policy and procedure interpretation/administration and development
  • Coordination with accounting and finance departments
  • Wellness, plans, coordinates and assists in the management of the health and wellness efforts for staff
  • Stay up to date on changes in Human Resources and latest methods for recruitment
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or demonstrated equivalent.
  • 3+ years of Human Resources experience, PHR certified
  • Successful recruitment experience using multiple sources required
  • Experience with Chicago Public Schools preferred
  • Some experience working with a nonprofit ideal
  • Experience with benefit administration including defined benefit/defined contribution plans, Disability, Health & Welfare
  • Experience with laws and regulations surrounding compliant benefits administration
  • Demonstrated proficiency with HR database systems and applications, developing database reports and analyzing data
  • Training and development experience ideal
  • Experience working with unions preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in dealing effectively with all levels of employees
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities
  • Comfortable making formal presentations to audiences of varying sizes including employees and management staff
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, bilingual English/Spanish preferred
