Category Contract Logistic provides smart logistics solutions at lowest cost, fulfilling high service levels and quality demands, complying to safety and security requirements, with focus on sustainability, to continuously contribute to the IKEA vision and business idea, based on the need within the IKEA supply chain. This Category is responsible to source and operate outsourced logistics (warehouse) units, following the strategic, tactical, and operational scope. We work within one of the most dynamic areas of logistics, one in which innovation and technology advances force us to continuously get better.
To develop further our logistics business in South and South-East Asia, we are strengthening our team in Port Klang, Malaysia.

Supply Chain Operations (SCO) connects our customers with IKEA products in a simple, affordable and sustainable way. SCO delivers excellent transport and logistic solutions today, tomorrow and over time by (a) optimizing replenishment solutions (b) defining physical goods flow capacity needs (c) sourcing and developing transport & logistics capacities (d) managing the goods flow (e) leading & securing supply quality.
As a Business Developer you will secure business objectives according to relevant strategic directions and Category Contract Logistics’ business plans. You establish and develop high performing logistics service providers in our portfolio, meeting the needs of the business to serve our customers today and in the future. You contribute to optimise the value chain with the goal to create better products and services at lower costs, to reach more of the many customers.
Your key tasks and responsibilities are:
- Relationship and performance: Overall responsible for business with a defined number of service providers (SP) and a defined business scope. Develop effective relationships with SPs to secure their performance in all respects (as per defined goals and KPIs), through IKEA Way of doing business, based on shared business model and values, trust and transparency.
- Continuous development of business & SPs: Professionally challenges and supports SPs to constantly improve all aspects of their performance and capabilities, based on current and future needs. Cooperates with SPs to continuously increase their overall competitiveness through new biz opportunities, such as better networks, alternative drivetrains and fuels, better equipment, intermodality, innovation, digitalization, etc
- SP portfolio: Identifies and proposes new SPs based on long-term business needs. Participates in SP Classification process, in identification of "prioritized" and “potential prioritized” SPs. SPs and leads, based on Service Provider Development Plan (result of SPDP process), their development towards set goals.
- Business agenda & cost/price development: Identifies and acts on business opportunities, actively takes part in tenders and other procurement activities according to relevant working methods. Acts on opportunities & creates preconditions for SPs' production cost-down & securing respective price impact and development of all relevant business performance criteria
- Market intelligence: Maintains extensive knowledge of market conditions. Attends relevant external forums to keep up-to-date with industry trends, including innovative approaches. Is aware of economical influences (resulting to e.g. network/flow changes, etc.). Follows the development of legal/regulatory framework. Actively shares this information internally and acts upon challenges and opportunities.
- Action plan & Projects: Develops and implements yearly Action Plan with SPs and other functions to secure fulfilment of respective biz objectives. Leads or supports sourcing-related projects, when applicable
- Compliance: Establishes and secures fulfilment of Frame Agreement and Sub-agreements. Responsible to secure SPs' IWAY compliance, compliance to Supply Chain Security requirements and financial screening requirements
- IKEA Ambassador: Acts as IKEA ambassador towards external parties, and performs business responsibilities based on value- and fact-based business approach
Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of warehouse or logistics industry, market specific conditions and macroeconomic trends; as well as of value chain analysis and how to influence
- Knowledge and experience of interacting with external partners; incl. SP management
- Negotiation & project management skills
- Good presentation & communication skills in written & verbal
- Legal knowledge related to warehouse agreements and operational conditions
- University degree in logistics, economics, business administration or successful track record from similar position or equivalent.
- Fluency in English
